Modern warfare is all about fast movement, tanks and mechanized troops, attacking your enemy lightning fast with overwhelming fire power.
No it isn't. Modern warfare is about non-kinetic operations as much as a straight clash of strength. "War amongst the people" is about anything but overwhelming firepower.

It's also not only about ground forces it more-so Combined military strength

I wrote about combined military strength with close air support, also modern combat isn't always going to be about insurgent and guerrilla forces, it is just like that now. Like i used the gulf war as an example.

Edited by Diplomat: 1/31/2013 4:06:27 AMThe majority of modern operations conducted in the past 10 years have been non-kinetic operations designed at creating a politically credible state (i.e. Iraq and Afghanistan)

I understand that, but i am putting it in the context of the gulf war as "modern". I am not talking about anything relating to Iraq and Afghanistan wars of 2000.
-
So, in other words, you're not so much talking about the modern wars that the majority of countries are fighting (counter insurgencies), but rather conventional wars fought between state actors.

Yes, basically. In theory i am talking about hypothetical wars. I am just drawing parallels from the past and adding to how i think a conventional battle will be fought now.
