Modern warfare is all about fast movement, tanks and mechanized troops, attacking your enemy lightning fast with overwhelming fire power.
No it isn't. Modern warfare is about non-kinetic operations as much as a straight clash of strength. "War amongst the people" is about anything but overwhelming firepower.

  • I wrote about combined military strength with close air support, also modern combat isn't always going to be about insurgent and guerrilla forces, it is just like that now. Like i used the gulf war as an example.

The majority of modern operations conducted in the past 10 years have been non-kinetic operations designed at creating a politically credible state (i.e. Iraq and Afghanistan)

  • I understand that, but i am putting it in the context of the gulf war as "modern". I am not talking about anything relating to Iraq and Afghanistan wars of 2000.

  • So, in other words, you're not so much talking about the modern wars that the majority of countries are fighting (counter insurgencies), but rather conventional wars fought between state actors.

  • Yes, basically. In theory i am talking about hypothetical wars. I am just drawing parallels from the past and adding to how i think a conventional battle will be fought now.
