On Windows 7 and 8, the UI and 2D elements of the entire game are absent, opaque black, or horribly garbled. The game is still not playable, five weeks after. Raid race long finished, friends hitting 1560 and thinking about GMs and Master raid or moving to other games. Those affected will be hobbled in the Master raid permanently.
I'd held out hope for Hotfix 4.0.0.5. I figured the lack of patch notes might indicate a quiet fix for a rather embarrassing issue to Bungie (now embarrassing for two reasons: that it happened at all indicating lack of even a sniff test across supported platforms, and now that it's persisted for 5 full weeks). However, I just tested and Hotfix 4.0.0.5 does nothing for us. Without any further Hotfix plans communicated, I can only assume we won't be seeing resolution this Thursday and the best we can hope for is 6+ weeks.
My workaround - which is honestly not acceptable as it incurs additional cost, lag makes PvP a drag and won't work for everyone due to the high bandwidth requirements - is GeForce Now. So I've now paid $20+tax just to access the game because Bungie has failed to support the platforms it claimed and still claims are supported. There is a word for this behavior in the legal vernacular: Fraud.
We need regular updates and an ETA. If an ETA is not available, we need expectation management like "not before X date" given patch cadence and what is or isn't known at time of writing about how to resolve the problem. We need a pledge that future patches will be sniff tested on all supported OSes and platforms. The WQ Deluxe edition upcharge includes all Seasonal content, and we've now been unable to access more than a third of our first bought-and-paid-for Season. Thus, we also need some form of reparations, not a one-liner apology like we got after 3 weeks of similar inability to play in Season of the Lost. That Season was so prolonged we could catch up. Not so here.
Edit: Original post remains above, but as of the 3/31 TWAB this is slated to be fixed in Hotfix 4.0.0.6 deployed 4/5.

2 RepliesYup, it is fraudulent, and there is precedent for class action lawsuits for situations like these.
-
Windows 7 and 8.1 users can play D2 upon release of Hotfix 4.0.0.6
-
8 RepliesAt least the issue is still in the "known" list, unlike cutscenes.

SwatHuge fan of Bungie. I try to help. - old
Hello, Varner I have some very good news for you and other people who are unable to play Destiny 2 on Windows 7 devices. Bungie plan on releasing hotfix 4.0.0.6 which should resolve these issues. Please see the quoted information below which comes from the latest This Week at Bungie news article.
WINDOWS 7 / 8.1 UPDATE Since The Witch Queen’s launch, some players on Windows 7 and 8.1 have been unable to enter the game. This issue should be resolved next week in Hotfix 4.0.0.6. https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/51210
Thanks for your patience. -
9 RepliesEdited by Terr: 3/31/2022 3:38:01 PMWTF! Bungie "community volunteers" are starting to secretly entire delete threads about this bug now! Deleted 4 hours ago: Older OSes: Broken for >5 weeks now, 27% of two seasons. Unacceptable! No details on how it supposedly violates the forum's Code of Conduct, and even authors can't even see what was removed, so start taking proof-screenshots while you can...

3 RepliesI understand where you are coming from because if they advertise that the game is playable on windows 7 and 8 then it should be playable but at the same time I have to ask, what is exactly stopping you from updating to windows 10? You want to play WQ that you paid for so much that you would even use and pay for geforce now (was a GFN user before so I know the struggle) instead of just downloading windows 10 that's free or at least super cheap. Knowing bungie if they don't find the issue and fail to solve it they will sooner stop listing d2 being playable on win 7/8, wouldnt be the first time they did something like that (looking at you oathkeepers). That said I do hope they manage to fix it.

4 RepliesSTILL not fixed? Yikes. This is really sad now. I've moved on to other games at this point, but I'm gonna keep tuning in for a while, just out of curiosity at this point.

9 RepliesIt's not only Bungie's fault. AMD and Nvidia release drivers all the time and they are dropping support for Windows 7.
