Please explain your reasoning
Yes and no. Fusions benefit greatly from the ammo economy because they act like better primaries and stability perks on then are what makes them too strong.

1 ReplyIt's a weapon type that is meant to specifically punish rushers. My only real issues are the players who lean in hard on the Xur main ingredients that squid faced brat has sold. Picked them up myself, but i never found it fun to play with... But nah, the weapon type itself isn't op or anything. Just the perks the weapons can roll with sometimes.

Anyone saying no clearly is crutching extra hard on fusion lol. Fusions are currently busted, I can literally craft one and its deadlier than main ingredient. Fusions are way too forgiving, ever since the projectile to hitscan change happened, fusions have become insanely strong. The range and charge time on fusions are absurd as well. The problem with fusions right now is how they were designed to counter shotguns, however shotguns have been nerfed so much they are finally in a balanced state apart from chaperone and felwinter. Fusions though are the new shotguns but better due to their range, hitscan forgiveness and fast charge times. Idk why bungie made fusions hitscan, I thought they were fine the way they were, the changes to hitscan on top of the other changes like increased damage, range, stability etc. its overkill, all you need on a fusion is a stability perk to make it good, apply nothing but range and its easily god tier. Fusions definitely are too good right now, they need to get nerfed and I cant believe that actually came out of my mouth as I wrote this. I never thought I would ever say fusions need nerfing

I like the changes to the fusions, I like that they exist still. My problem stems from the sheer amount of consistency. Too much stability and accuracy perks making them able to get consistent 20-25m one shots. I dunno how to properly balance them but I would remove perks like Tap the Trigger, Under Pressure, Firmly Planted, Perpetual Motion etc. I feel like fusions will still be good without those kinds of perks, just not hyper consistent. Thus they return to more of a gamble/gimmick rather than a new primary weapon.

Edited by ben: 3/29/2022 3:09:27 AMFusion rifles objectively break the special weapon model that has existed since the game has been out. For the whole history of destiny 2, special weapons have filled a niche. They are high damage/one hit killing weapons with limited use cases. Sniper are high risk, high skill, high reward precision weapons that can dominate at range but take in a lot of flinch and have long zoom scopes that are awkward to use up close. Shotguns kill in one shot at point blank with minimal demand on aim, but are useless outside of that range. Grenade launchers are a bit of a wild card; they can put out a lot of damage at medium range and serve as a way to soften someone up for your primary, but are held back by the fact that they have travel time and are also very awkward to use up close, plus their damage has been nerfed numerous times and therefore their sheer slaying capability and intuitiveness of use is significantly less than that of shotguns and snipers. The key takeaway is that none of these weapons are very versatile. They have specific engagements in which they are very good, and in some cases these engagements come about very often which makes them very useful (shotguns because of small maps), but in general with a special weapon you are not able to use it in every engagement. You will always eventually have to use your primary, which is supposed to be your daily driver, your multipurpose weapon that makes up for what it lacks in damage and ease of use with versatility. While all primaries have their strengths and weaknesses, you can generally use your primary in almost any engagement on the map. That is what it is made for. Your special weapon is supposed to be the weapon that you pick to specialize in a certain range or type of gameplay, such as close quarters or long range, but it should never outright REPLACE your primary. Fusion rifles can outright replace your primary without adapting your gameplay whatsoever. They do not have a niche range and they are not difficult to use. They are most effective at 10-20m which is an extremely common range of engagement in destiny 2 due to the nature of the maps. If you have the basic awareness to precharge people, you can take your special weapon and extremely consistently beat people in what very much should be primary gunfights. The purpose of the primary weapon is completely defeated unless you play extremely passively with a very long range weapon, which is simply not a sustainable playstyle due to the size of the maps in this game. I am not anywhere near being a fusion rifle main. Out of my career 300,000 crucible kills, 600 of them are with fusion rifles. And yet, I can pick up a half decently rolled timeless vertex, snorri, or main ingredient and win a rumble game with 2-3 fusion rifle kills for every 1 primary kill with ease. People do not know what to do against it and you can't blame them; the only counter is playing hyper passively and never peeking an angle more than one slide away from cover so that you can maybe slide into cover if you get challenged by a fusion rifle and try to bait the shot. Otherwise they basically do not have a counter. I have reached a state of being completely and utterly jaded and desensitized when it comes to destiny 2 PvP and could not care less about what the meta is, I realize that it's not a PvP game and will never be balanced. Fusions could stay like this forever and I would not really care. But, that is just my experience. Are they overtuned? Yes, in my opinion. Do I want them to be nerfed? Do I expect bungie to care? I am completely indifferent. And to be clear no this is not a "hand cannon shotgun main cries about a new weapon type being strong" post. Yes, I have mained a hand cannon and a shotgun for most of my time on Destiny 2 because I used to take the game kind of seriously and would just use the meta all the time. But if you have read any of my posts in the past few months you know that I am the first person to say that A. special weapons in general have too much of a presence in PvP and B. hand cannons are in desperate need of a nerf. Just to provide perspective after reading my critique of fusion rifles. I could write the same post making pretty much all of the same points about hand cannons. In fact, I have.

2 RepliesGreen ammo is busted in crucible. Too easy to main a green ammo weapon.

3 RepliesNo. My reasoning is because of the word "Busted". Imo, "Busted" is equivalent to Stasis on launch levels of overpowered but in weapon form. Fusions aren't that bad to the point they need to drastically nerf them on a "Busted" level. Strong? Sure but not busted.

2 RepliesD2 players have always had an issue with weapon diversity. Can’t always be HC + Shotgun.

1 ReplyNo Hand cannon and shotgun are problem
-
No more than shot guns are, and we've had to put up with them since D1! Fusions are fine, just don't rum in a straight line with your shotty out and you'll avoid them!
-
I don't think so, I find fusion rifles much more difficult to use in PVP than shotguns.
-
Fusion rifles in general are not overpowered. Certain perks on certain fusion rifles are. I’m not naming names, but Firmly Planted + Tap the Trigger is . . . Interesting. . .

4 RepliesMan all the handcanon shotgun apes can't wrap their head around the fact that it takes a very specific roll set for a fusion to be very strong ( case in point main ingredient ) . But they immediately cry fusions are op and take no skill. Meanwhile we have 5-6 of the top 10 weapons on average being handcanons always in trials meta. But sure let's cry about a singular fusion rifle , basically " I'm bad " can't adapt and want to nerf.

Waiting on Telesto to make it's shinning comeback!

1 ReplyEdited by Grenade Eater: 3/28/2022 6:20:12 PMI mean, nerf them if you want. I will be using them just as I did the years before, good or bad times for the fusion rifles. The less fusion rifle players in PvP the better for me and other true fr mains.

12 RepliesEdited by High Noon at Jötunn Saloon: 3/27/2022 10:54:36 PMI mean, yes but so are - Crimson - The Last Word - Le Monarque - Sniper 140 aim assist - Titan Barricades - Axion Bolts - Shotguns Is it worth complaining about at this point? Nobody but people who live in Destiny crucible take it seriously.

5 RepliesDepends Some rolls on some fusions 100% are No fusion should be able to do this: https://twitter.com/moderntryhard/status/1508027955884212225?s=21&t=sxc0vlgPZHBq7UyWmNKjCw

As busted as every other special weapon.
-
No. It is not a bad thing that a weapon exists that directly challenges the most effective playstyles without absolutely dominating the game. We aren't in 35+ meter Erentil land anymore. We're in a place where a really well rolled fusion will sit you down within 25 meters if you rely on hand cannon + shotgun cleanup for every engagement without paying attention to sound queues. And that's okay. Fusions should be an option. They just shouldn't be the best option.
-
Fusions aren’t busted. Because Shotguns aren’t consistent anymore, people turned to fusions. And I don’t blame em.
-
4 RepliesLots of salty shotgun user mad fusion counter them 😂
-
The right fusion with the right perks is guaranteed to win any fusion vs primary gunfight up to mid range, which is where most engagements happen on most maps. If that’s not busted, I don’t know what is. You don’t need to hit a precision shot, or worry about being close enough. Just hold down the fire button and win. Are all fusions like this? No, and without the right perks it can be slightly more difficult to achieve good results. But since people call hand cannons broken despite them being in a similar situation, we might as well call fusions broken as well.

An outlier creeps into Shotgun apes dominance and Shotgun ape throws a tantrum -
I think they're obnoxious. My problem really is that they can charge and one shot in close to or faster than the optimal ttk of primaries. Bungie said that the idea behind fusions is that if you stand in front of someone and charge you shouldn't stand a chance. I don't think that's the case right now. The one downside really isn't much given their range. Shotguns require you to within 7 meters these days which I think is good trade off and snipers require precision. Fusions should theoretically have charge time but it doesn't feel like nearly the trade off that other specials have. I simply think they should be harder to use. When I get hit with a sniper I'm usually like, okay yep nice shot. Shotguns a little less but I'm accustomed to being more cautious on corners and backing off as needed. A fusion that can kill in .75 without requiring any type of additional work? It's a bit much.

1 ReplySome. Likely suspect in particular. Though since bungo nerfed chaperone all those scrubs have started using fusions lol. Not necessarily op just the fact everyone is using basically one fusion lol
