Gigabyte RTX 3080 Aorus Master Rev 1 Crashing constantly

I am getting constant GPU crashes (black screen, audio continues, video does not recover). So far I've been unable to determine the cause. I have up to date NVidia drivers, have re-installed drivers, have re-installed the game. The temps on the GPU and memory junction don't look too high. Once I get the black screen I have to restart the computer and re-launch the game. Seems to happen more frequently in Witch Queen content. Anyone else have this issue and/or figured out a fix or work-around?

  • So update, this turned out to be a temperature problem after all. I used HardwareInfo64 and found that I had a hotspot temp that was hitting 105c regularly and peaked at 107c during a benchmark with 3dMark (had to turn power to 65% using EVGA precision X1 to keep the crash from happening near-instantly when benchmark started). The gpu itself and memory junction were still at acceptable temps, so I'm not sure what temp sensor was reporting this temp. Solution ended up being to disassemble the gpu and remove the old thermal paste, re-paste it, and re-assemble it (ensuring the four screws in particular holding the heatsink to the gpu chip itself were as tight as they could go). I may have left them a little more loose than they should have been last time I re-assembled (I replaced all the thermal pads on this card [and added more] as memory junction temps hit 105c out of the box and caused thermal throttling). Anyway, I'm running rock solid now at 144 fps most of the time at 1440p, with all temps looking much lower (hotspot temp dropped 25-30c). Hope this helps someone, cheers!

  • I'm having the same issue with the PC version of Destiny currently. GeForce RTX2080 Super card user here. I am having repeated instances of my PC crashing and rebooting while doing anything in the Witch Queen expansion. I could be running around the open world, doing a strike, or god forbid running the new raid with friends, then all of a sudden my entire PC goes black and reboots itself. I'm 100% convinced at this point its an issue with Destiny and one of my PC drivers, though I can't pinpoint which one. Either way, Bungie refuses to acknowledge these problems at all and its driving me crazy.

I'm not fortunate enough to have the same issue, but if you're looking for more things to try, perhaps see what happens if you underclock various components. I recently has some crashing problems after adding new RAM, and while Memtest86+ said they were fine, everything stabilized when I dropped frequencies slightly.

Hey - posted the below earlier. Not sure if any use but has helped me Hi, I'm having the same issue. 5600x, 3080 10gb, 32gb ram. Black screen, kernel error 41 in event viewer after reboot. I used hwinfo to show my VRAM and RAM usage on the start bar as well as a few others. I've got 32gb of ram but noticed I would get the crash when I went over 9gb of usage. I seem to have minimised it by doing two things (no idea which is helping me but try either/both to see if it helps you) 1. Increase your page file size to 16-32gb (google if you don't know how to) 2. Exit and restart the game if I want to do a new activity that isn't tower/helm/last activity. So if I've been doing nightfalls and going back to the tower/helm it seems I can run these for as long as I want without having a crash. If I want to then play some crucible i'll exit the game and restart, play as much crucible as I want and then restart if I want to do patrols or whatever. I've no idea if the above is helping or it's just coincidence but it's made playing the game possible without mid-game crashes. It did seem to happen way more when I was in the new location and zipping about through missions, strikes, psiops etc. Good luck...
