Highly, highly unlikely.
There is quite a bit of lore to suggest that she was formerly an Awoken Hunter of Zavala's generation of Guardians. She always refers to Mara as "My Queen".
She was part of the tragic group of Guardians who made the first raid attempt to destroy Crota after the disastrous defeat when Guardians tried to take the Moon back from the Hive.
She was the only one from that fireteam to survive the attempt. She is the way she is because she lost her ghost to the light-draining abilities of the Ascendant Hive, and the lore suggests that she survived because she had Ahamkara bone in her possession, and it granted a wish based on her desire to live.
But since Ahamakara wishes never turn out exactly the way the that wisher plans it to, she survived by took on many of the characteristics OF the Hive. So she is essentially a Hive Wizard/Awoken "hybrid" that is in service to the Light....walks a fine line between service to the Vanguard and to Queen Mara.
If you played the Shadowkeep campaign, you can see that the Nightmares used her survivors guilt over the failed raid to torment her. The "weight" of it was so heavy that she was at times bent over from the weight of their tormenting her.
One of the bad--blam!- moments of the campaign is that moment when the Nightmares of all 5 of her former raid team members are screaming messages of guilt and shame at her.....and she turns on them and tells them all to SHUT THE HELL UP.
...and they do it.
Brought a big smile this this Guardian's face when she did it.

I always think it was her being an awoken that helped her live, since they already are touched by the dark an she was a guardian
-
I think the Ahamkara bone helped to survive. I think being Awoken has helped her accept what she became. Different kind of survival.

It's not confirmed if she had one

Edited by kellygreen45: 12/29/2021 1:01:25 PMNo, but it’s suggested in multiple places. Especially in the lore surrounding the Dreaming City and the Last Wish raid. That Ahamkara don’t necessarily respond to expressed wishes, but instead to strong desire. There are also multiple references to an unnamed female Hunter who accepted a dare to hunt down an Ahamkara. The Guardian who provoked her was afraid that he’d pushed her to do something that would result in her death. It didn’t. Her hunt was successful.

How can she be Awoken ? ,she is not blue -
Not all Awoken are blue-complexioned…and Eris was transformed by her experience. Much of her power now is fueled by Darkness since she no longer has a Ghost. Her previous status as Awoken is strongly suggested. She repeatedly refers to Mara as “My Queen”. She has a relationship with Zavala that is alluded to be is not addressed directly. Also Mara was scheming with Eris to bring down Crota long before the Reef was opened to Guardians of the City as a whole.

Have we seen a single awoken who didn't have a blue complexion ? ,yes she was transformed in the abyss , but why would the transformation turn her from blue to white ?,the point of the transformation was to turn her part hive , Awoken or Human didn't have anything to do with it , plus Ikora knew her from before ,she was one of Ikoras "Hidden" and didn't notice anything different besides the 3 eyes , and Zevala seems to have a romantic interest in Eris(get in line ) , but it doesn't seem like he knows her from before, and he agreed with the speaker that she should be exiled ,he wouldn't do that if she was an old friend Maybe I didn't read all of the Mara lore, but I thought the Crota fireteam was trying to kill Crota has revenge for all the Guardians he slayed in the great tragedy on the moon ,I didn't know Mara had any part or influence in it But I have always wondered what her loyalty to Mara was based on , which does seem odd for a non-awoken to have , so you may be right ,or it may be a plothole -

All Awoken have some TINT of blue in their complexion. But awoken range from an icy complexion that is more whitish or grayish than it is blue......to greenish.....all the way to deep purple. You may have not realized that because the main Awoken characters and "generic" Awoken tend to have that light blue complexion that you see Mara and Petra (and to a lesser extent Zavala) have..... ...and Bungie pushed that notion with Forsaken when they decided to re-frame the Awoken and make them "space elves" (in the Tolkien and Middle-Earth sense of being an Elf). But Awoken come in a wide range of complexions. Also the games lore makes it clear that when The Awoken returned to our realm from The Distributary, many did not agree with Mara's approach of remaining hidden and assessing the situation in secret. They left, and tried to intervene and help in the dire situation the Solar System found itself in during the Dark Ages that followed the Collapse. Many of them died...and they are the source of the Awoken Guardians that now populate the Vanguard. Zavala and Eris clearly have a backstory that has not been fleshed out. If you stand over by him in the Tower, he pleads with you to let Eris know that the Vanguard needs her. His tone is personal and not professional. There is also a cutscene where Eris and Zavala are talking, and Eris is pleading with Zavala to "Let her go'. The statement clearly has a double-meaning. To "let her go" in a professional sense. So that she can go do what only she can do to serve the Vanguard and the City....but she is also telling him to let go of her personally. To let go of whatever attachment to her that he has. Something that Zavala clearly struggles with.

I still don't don't think Eris is Awoken ,but she might owe Mara for getting out of the pit Plus there is also lore that Eris grew up in the last city -
https://youtu.be/WuMTMWnR5Bg I was right about everything except her being Awoken. The in lore reason given for Eris using “My Queen” is pretty weak.

She arguably has one of the most tragic back stories in the game.. It's pretty tough, a better question I think is was or is she compromised in some way by the torture she underwent from the hive. I think similar questions can be asked of Drifters character as well. A few of the main characters have some questionable events in their backstory that if Bungie really wanted make things interesting they could.
