Great post!!!
Edit: nvm on all this stuff below..,
Also, I thought the traveler tried to leave during the collapse, but Rasputin shot it down? So it didn’t really choose to stay, it was forced to. Ghost fragment: Rasputin 5. People seem to forget about this one.
Also, Rasputin describing the traveler as “pseudoaltruistic” and the fact that it tries to run shows that the traveler still might not necessarily be the good guy in the story...
I've always had a sneaking suspicion that the traveler isn't really on our side. "Darkness" and "light" are just the names that we have put on the powers we see (but don't really fully understand.) The Hive follows Sword logic - kill strong enemies, you get stronger. The Traveler makes weaklings into strong enemies. The Eliksni were made only strong enough to lose. The Darkness sworded them up quite nicely. The Traveler boosted us up. The Darkness came over and said "hm... still not ready. I'll have a snack now, then come back for the main course.Put 'em back in the oven." Left again. Then the Traveler dumped out the ghosts to fatten us up. Rasputin knows. They are putting up a great show in the hopes of surviving the coming doom of humanity. Zavala understands this too. He is falling to despair with the realisation that he is not actually helping the good guy...

From my meager knowledge of Destiny, the Fallen aren't a main byproduct of the Darkness. The reason the Traveler left the Fallen was bc the Fallen peoples were warring over who should wield the light. The mass pandemonium drove the Traveler away. Now I agree with you on the whole 'the Traveler isn't out friend' stuff, but the Fallen aren't part of the Darkness, and they try to kill us because we wield the light, and the Fallen want the light back.
-
What I meant by that term was that the Traveler basically farmed the Fallen. The Traveler "fattened them up", so that when the Darkness arrived it would get a lot stronger by killing them. When the Darkness reached humanity, we were around a similar/slightly lower "strength" as the Fallen when they collapsed. Obviously it wouldn't give the Darkness enough benefit to fully eat us there and then. It left again, asking it's partner the Traveler to build humanity up further. That's when ol' Traveler released the ghosts. Calus very much knows this. He has seen the edge of the universe. Once again, he implores us to grow fat (like a turkey would be encouraged to grow fat in November.) He is desperate to get in on the deal, so he's bringing nice plump thanksgiving turkeys to the Darkness' table.

Shit. I didn't put 2 and 2 together at all. Thanks for your clarification

<The Darkness doesn't have to rely on killing to get stronger. It has near-infinite power by default. Once it kills the Traveler it'll be THE STRONGEST thing in the universe.>
-
Stretching my own metaphor way too far, but I bet the turkey looks at the farmer the same way. And who gave us this info, btw? The Traveler would be the only entity strong enough to understand the scope of the Darkness' power. Kind of interesting that the Traveler has told us we can only survive by listening to it. What if it's motive isn't survival? Does it sound like the actions of a benevolent god-being to ditch your chosen champions at the first sign of trouble? The Traveler has done it already, almost did it a second time. At the best, the Traveler is a coward. At the worst... You ever wonder why the Traveler didn't actually give us the truly strong powers (ghosts) until AFTER the Darkness left? You know, the space magic that might have been useful for your chosen "Champion race" to defeat your ultimate enemy. We were meant to lose, and the Traveler packs up and finds the next meal for their boss. Darkness :-"Ok, 'Traveler', what a silly name... if only they knew your true name haha. How are the current crops going?" Traveler:- "I apologize, sir. These people just aren't growing fast enough. I believe it's their primate brain that keeps returning to thoughts of procreation instead of advancement." D:-"bah, I'm sure you're doing your best. I'll be back later, and I want to see some results. You did great with the bug planet. Just remember there is a long list of balls of energy in middle management that would kill for this job." T:- "yes sir, I understand sir, I'll get right on it, sir." (to themselves):- "Oh man, I'm really in for it this time... I better break out the special protocol." ...saved by our nether regions... again.

<The Traveler hasn't told us jack shit. Most of our info on the Darkness comes from the Books of Sorrow and the Marasenna. Then there's -blam!-ing Toland who's spent so much time in the Deep's personal dimension. He understands at the very least what IT brings with it.>
-
<That whole tab was him listing what if scenarios. It never implied he shot the Traveler. One of the exotic ships from D2 is him deciding it's not worth it. There was a heavy weapons discharge around the Traveler during the Collapse, but Rasputin didn't mean to hurt the Traveler. Not to mention his weapons were literally useless against the Darkness, it's safe to assume they'd be just as ineffective against the Traveler. He fired dozens of valkyries at one tiny shard and it didn't even dent it.>

Oooh I never knew, well thanks!
