I don't use this word lightly, but Overwatch is and was overrated.
And I don't think it would have the popularity it's had if it was created by anyone other than Blizzard.
I remember shortly after Overwatch released someone here made a post on why it was unfair to call the game overrated. Following is, roughly, the same response I gave back then, which did actually change their mind:
You have to remember that Overwatch came out around the same time console games started getting more microtransactions. My first point is and was, while other games were being slated for their lootboxes, Overwatch got a free pass.
While other games got slated for having no pve, no story mode, no singleplayer, Overwatch got a free pass.
While other games got slated for oversexualisation of female characters, Overwatch got a free pass.
And I still believe this lack of criticism is almost entirely because the game was made by Blizzard (just remember that this was before "don't you have phones?")
Also, I can't remember which other games released in 2016, but I do remember being very angry that Overwatch won at the game awards over Dark Souls 3.

Apparently so. What was that?

That's poses though. I'm talking about the costumes.
That's poses though. I'm talking about the costumes.
I'm not sure it makes a difference. People saw characters as being sexualised, and weren't happy.
-
It makes a big difference imo. A small number of people complained a little bit about Tracer's pose. Compare that to the backlash the Dead or Alive series has had.

They had two women feeling each other up on stage while they talked about the game. That's not even close to a suggestive pose. It's only right that people kick up more of a fuss.

No, I didn't see that. Look, I'm not saying we shouldn't react more to worse things, I'm just saying that a bad thing should always get a reaction, and I didn't see much of one to Overwatch.
I'm just saying that a bad thing should always get a reaction, and I didn't see much of one to Overwatch.
That's because Overwatch didn't do much that's bad. A character was wearing a jumpsuit. Besides, this is being critical of people. People being outraged about DoA but not Overwatch shouldn't be points against the game itself.
