Crazy what if here but maybe it's an enemy type we have never seen before. I mean it's supposed to be the birth place of the awoken right? So what if the raid boss is whatever created the awoken in the first place?
Edit: and I'm thinking along the lines of Mara knew it was there but part of her duty as queen was to keep it in check type of thing. Not sure how long it has supposed to have been in game since she disappeared but probably long enough for something like that to have happened.

Well Mara says “my mother was starlight, and my father was the dark”, or the other way round. But the point is her parents are starlight and darkness. Now either “starlight” means literal starlight which isnt that crazy since we are all made from stars, or she means the Light because the Awoken constantly waver between Light and Dark. But annoyingly, “the dark” also raises a few questions. If we follow the vein of literal starlight, then it could be the darkness between celestial bodies (or possibly the void). However, if we follow the idea of the Light that suggests “the dark” is the Darkness. In addition, since the Awoken were all created at the same time through the same circumstances their ‘parents’ are probably all the same. The house of Sov is probably a remnant from their human families. Finally, my point! If the Dreaming City boss is the creators of the Awoken, I see two possible outcomes. First that we will fight starlight and the void? Second we will fight the Light(?) and the Darkness, which is unlikely since the Darkness is the main antagonist of the entire franchise and is unlikely to be the boss of a DLC even a comet DLC. I also think we can agree that fighting starlight, void and the Light is not going to happen. But thats just a theory.

I thought the awoken were created by an excess of the travelers light?
