I used to really disapprove of Mara being the Raid boss. Not from a lore perspective, but just from the gameplay. I just could not see a tiny humanoid being a fightable enemy. But now, with the Techeuns (is that spelled right? I don’t remember there being an O) being revealed as enemies, I have changed my mind. It also fits with Bungie stating that they wanted to step away from the “evil monster” type of main enemy. God damm, I really think this is happening, the more I think about it. Although I would hope for Savathun to reveal herself in the raid, I don’t think she will physically be there. Does not seem like a Bungie thing to start new plot lines in a raid. But that still leaves the “big monster under the city” open. It has to have a connection to the taken. So my very first idea of an Ahamkara is out. And I don’t think Savathun is currently residential in the Dreaming City. Also, I propose the shot with the big witch and three knights is from a new strike in the Dreaming City, the Witch being the boss and a “herald of Savathun” kinda deal.

 • An Ahamkara might not be completely out of the picture. Perhaps an Ahamkara (the last of its kind) has always resided in the Dreaming City and Savathun "took" it. That could make sense. And maybe this Taken Ahamkara is guarding Mara? It all makes sense in theory. It depends on how they execute it.

 • It’s either Mara or an Ahamkara. Both of them being there would be really cool, but it’s not really Bungies style to dig up more than two or three important characters from the lore (or D1) in one expansion. Also, if Mara is as powerful as she seems to be, why would she need a guard? But your idea would be freakin epic. And I do believe that there is indeed some sort of “immense creature” in the city.

 • Well, I'm thinking (if Mara isn't Taken) that the Ahamkara could be guarding her in the way a jailer guards his prisoners. It wouldn't be protecting her, it would be keeping her bound. I don't know how that would fit in with the story, but it's just an idea. Because you're right, Mara wouldn't need guarding from a physical threat. About two large characters in one place: I fully suspect Mara is in the raid. She has to be. That's the only way this all makes sense. The problem is, I don't see us fighting her. Fighting a small humanoid as a final boss in a raid just seems... weird. It would also be a disservice to her character if we just killed her. Additionally, we know that she'll return as a "pirate queen" later down the line. So she can't die. With that line of thinking, she has to be in the raid but she can't be a boss. Because not killing a raid boss and letting them escape is also a no-no. Myelin told Bungie himself that, based on the results from his poll. So, we're forced into having Mara in the raid, but she can't be a boss. The only way I see them doing this is having Mara be a set-piece for an even bigger threat. What this threat is? Don't know. An Ahamkara is simply the coolest thing that popped into my mind. It also fits with Game Informer's comment on a "insidious dragon" and Petra's "creature" line.

 • I used think Mara could never be a boss for the exact same reason, that fighting a humanoid would be very weird. But now that we have seen the Taken Techeuns as enemies and I imagine her being an enemy in the same way, floating around, throwing some space magic. Also, the pirate queen was an old idea that was just rumored to come back again. People concluded that because of it fitting with the reef and Maras voice actor confirming a return. But it still could happen though, it’s just not confirmed.

 • It's not an old idea. Not only did Mara's voice actor confirm she'd be coming back, but one of the writers spoiled that she'll be coming back as a pirate queen. Unless Bungie made some serious story revisions in the past year, it's all but confirmed.
