Wait... so Andal is a guy? I always thought he was a she. Huh guess I did learn something.

  • Haha fair enough. It’s not always easy to tell genders in this game.

Good post and theory btw I'd just add that because Taniks is a hired gun it's very probable that Andel was targeted which would imply there was someone/thing that wanted Andel dead but for some reason couldn't do it itself - this is especially odd for any fallen, who would've had more than enough reason to want the Vanguard dead at that time, as their whole culture is centred around proving strength and fighting to the top ranks. Point I'm trying to make is if Andal planned his own death I think he'd have to hire Taniks to kill himself. Fallen despise guardians so it's a perfect cover up. Personally however I think the Vanguard dare is something else, my theory is it is the selection process to select a new Vanguard Hunter (as no hunter ever wants to be the Vanguard) possibly Andal selects a pair or even group of hunters he personally thinks are good enough to be the vanguard. I agree with your theory that Andel wanted to protect cayde and that's why he was a part of it, furthermore Andal made the dare for cayde impossible so that he would fail and be forced to become the new vanguard. Taniks was a notorious killer, and in the words of variks, very good at what he does. So, what if Taniks was the dare, a dare to kill Taniks, a dare Cayde failed, and a dare which ended up killing Andal. With Andal able to return to the field he'd probably more than want to join a close friend on a strike, that's just what hunters are like, it would also allow him to personally verify if cayde completes the dare. A tragedy really, which is something that fits with cayde's rather tragic past.

  • I like it, I hadn’t thought much of Taniks himself being the Dare. Or of Andal having to take out a hit on himself, I’d just assume that he would have challenged him, and we all know Taniks likes a challenge. Yeah I really like the idea of Andal taking out a hit on himself
