Not even close. TLW is tailored towards a certain crowd or a certain kind of player with a certain playstyle. It was NEVER well suited for my playstyle, and even when I used HC's, I used High Impact, LR hand cannons with low RoF rather than TLW or its archetype. It's top tier if you use it for what it's built for, but it's not the hands down best HC or best Primary in the History of Destiny. In PVE, that would belong to FB. In PVP, you can make an argument for each of the three exotic HC's, or for HC's like Timur's Lash, Finala's Peril, The Red Hand, Lord High Fixer, etc. But with legendaries, its always about the perks rather than the gun. If you don't have good perks to fit the gun, it's not going to be a good weapon anyways.

  • If we're looking for a primary with overall utility in both PVP and PVE, I don't know how you can ignore OG Suros. The gun was basically and AR and Scout Rifle built into one. I've got more kills with it in PVE than I do with G-Horn, and in PVP it was a monster.

  • Honestly I never thought of that. But even so its reign in the crucible was so short and it went through a period where it was totally useless (along with basically all autos). It's only just now coming back to usefulness

  • Yeah, but balancing patches weren't released regularly or at regular intervals so a true apples to apples comparison in this matter is very difficult IMO. Measuring it on duration of meta alone may skew things unintentionally. Even if the Suros meta was short-lived, I would weigh the dual utility factor quite heavily, along with the fact that it was SO good in PVP that it forced them to make a pretty rapid change.

    this is why im really glad there are no more random stat rolls for weapons in d2 it made 99% of the stuff you got worthless because there were only a couple rolls that made the gun worth using, and some of them Sidney have any really good rolls available. they really made a mistake with that choice and was one of the reasons why it was impossible to balance anything. what good is reducing range when you could get a roll with 3 range perks lol it didn't help that they would blanket nerd a whole archetype because of 1 problem weapon it was always a mess

    if you look at the most popular "competitive" fps games and all the 'best' og fps games they all had static weapons. if I were designing a game like Destiny I would put a hard wall between PvP and PvE want to do PvP? well here are a full set of static Common/Rare/Legendary weapons that everyone has access to for in game earnable currency/PvP level(whatever) and that's it, and you are forced to use those weapons to enter the arenas/modes. In addition, I would flatten out the health and armor values for everyone it would completely level the playing field and make it easier to balance the PvP you could use the PvP weapons in PvE but not the other way around idk, there's so many different, layered variables in Destiny that I don't think there is any way to fully balance everything without making PvP completely separate and it's very possible that by doing that it would lose a lot of soul. the biggest and most glaring fault this game has isn't the balance it's the lack of servers and the shitty matchmaking, the p2p architecture is outdated and garbage, you can never have a "competitive" game when the host (and those closest in real world location to the host) always has the advantage and the connection is so easily manipulated, and when it's coupled with skill based matchmaking and very squishy regional filter it's even worse. I've been playing fps PvP games since OG Doom in the early 90s and I've never come across a AAA game with such shitty connection/matchmaking/hit detection.... I've never screamed "BULLSHIT!" at my tv/pc so often and loudly than I did with Destiny. it's crazy and sad. it's a great game, it has good bones as they say but I had to stop playing as far back as October(my nephew was over last week and was drooling over my stuff and had to play lol so that wasn't me recently) I moved over to BF1 and Titanfall because I just couldn't take it anymore lol if Destiny PvP is all you really play you don't realize how much of a mess it really is but when you go play something with good regional matchmaking that's server based for a while and then come back it's REALLY noticeable how jacked up the PvP is. but I like the news that I've read recently, I'll dl the beta and I might come back into the fold....still upset about the lack of servers but maybe with the changes they're making it might be tolerable
