Why does everyone hate synthesis so much? It's very clearly the best option.

Everyone hates it because you do exactly what the reapers want. It also goes against what Shepard fought for the whole trilogy. On multiple ocassions Shepherd states that what the reapers are doing is wrong because people deserve to have a choice. Choosing Synthesis has shepard choosing a drastic change for everyone in the galaxy which goes against the fundamental principles of the games thus far.

But... that's true of all options. And the other options include a whole lot of death.

No it isn't. Control only stops the reapers from killing everyone and changes their purpose. No major alterations or deaths there. Destroy kills the reapers which is the goal of the galaxy at that moment in time. It also kills synthetic life such as the Geth and EDI, however; they're built and can be rebuilt after this is all over.

Edited by Stormtroupe: 6/7/2017 2:58:29 PMOh yes I remember now. But control basically makes Shepard the immortal emperor of the galaxy by controlling an unstoppable force of sentient evil machines lol. doesn't sound quite right to me lol. Destroy seems like it's far and away the worst option. Let's say for example that you could clone someone back into existence after death - it wouldn't justify killing them.

I agree, with the way the story and really all of the mass effect series is setup it is the obvious correct choice, though maybe that is why people hate it, because it is so obvious and so it makes people feel like they dont want to take that option (the boring one that everyone else will do). I personally like the ending, all species gain a huge biological boost and the reapers can now be allies, it is also the most likely option that would be chosen if the developers actually decide to include the last trilogy in the new games.

Exactly. I don't think any of the endings are quite perfect but I think synthesis suits the tone of the story the best.

I'll probably choose that. Control just doesn't make Shepard seem right, and destroy kills a lot
