This points to a long content drought for the final year of Destiny. That's my take on it anyway.

I'm aware of that. They know their player base is focused on reaching max light. If a player reaches max light then they are less likely to grind as much. If the player isn't focused on light levels then their focus shifts to doing new things. If Bungie isn't going to add new things then they want the player distracted by the grind for max light. They limited the ways to reach max light so the grind takes longer.

Excessive was the 5+ months it took to reach 320 in TTK.

But the grind will be heavy for those two weeks. Lots of hours logged that Bungie can boast about. We're not arguing against each other unless you think they will add new content after RoI. And these 2 week events don't count lol

Pretty sure you're missing my initial point on purpose. Have a good one

No, I just don't think you have a point. You're saying this move artificially extends the grind, and they made that choice to cover for the lack of content. But we've established that it still takes very little time to hit 400, so it's not extending the grind by that much. Moreover, we know they're fully capable of REALLY extending the grind if they wanted to because that was the situation in TTK (5+ months to maybe hit 320 if you're lucky). The situation now is a very long way from that, and so it doesn't make sense for the goal to be an extension of the grind. The goal was more likely to shepherd people into endgame and multiplayer activities.
