So another Iron Banner is in the books and I thought it was awesome. I love IB clash because the games for the most part all seem to come down to the wire.
Going into this IB, I was determined to try to remaster the -blam!-ed over version of Fusion Rifles that currently exist in the game as well as show once more that nothing is op and any class can compete in this game.
Now if you don't play with Fusion Rifles and just watch the videos, this is NOT typical year 2 performance. Yes they can still be the most fun weapon class in the game, but also by far the most frustrating. ALL the footage is from this IB and the opening sequence is something that has become the sad reality for most of year 2 so far and I've tried to show that in videos past.
Today I want to show what is still possible when you practice the -blam!- out of something and use everything at your disposal to win. Weapons, abilities, supers and most importantly, map and situational awareness and also discuss exactly where Fusion Rifles sit in the current meta.
Honestly, after all the changes Bungie have made, the only one that there is no compensating for is the one thing I would be happy if they'd fix just that.
Fusion beams de-spawning.
Everything else I can adjust and overcome. I've learned a completely different aim point to compensate the stability nerfs. I've relearned the range at which I can somewhat reliably count on them to be effective. What I can't do is go 1v1 against a shotgun and win if they pull the trigger. It's a win for them 100 times out of 100 because their shot is an instant kill and mine disappears and it's broken as hell (along with grenades de-spawning on death).
So to all the chirpy mother-blam!-ers who like to tell me I don't know how to use a fusion rifle. Yes, actually I do and EVERY SINGLE SHOT in this video would have been a kill 8 months ago.
Last but not least to everyone that screams for nerfs for MIDA, Shotguns, Fusionbolts, Thorn, TLW, etc. Instead of always asking for nerfs, try challenging yourself to be better. I've said it before and I'll say it again.
Nothing in this game is OP and it's up to you to choose what kind of Guardian you want to be. One who asks for the competition to be brought to your level, or one who gets knocked down and gets right the -blam!- back up.
You can nerf my -blam!-ing gun. You can't nerf me.

1 ReplyAwesome post and video. A video of this caliber deserves a thoughtful response. Your video footage is 100% accurate as to the frustrations present with fusion rifles in the current version of the game. I could not agree with you more. Here are a couple quotes I wanted to comment on.
Nothing in this game is OP and it's up to you to choose what kind of Guardian you want to be.
I have maintained this philosophy since back in Y1 when I decided to begin taking Crucible in a serious manner. At first I wasn't really concerned about any performance metrics. I quickly realized this game has something about it which compels me to get better at certain skillsets pertaining to PVP and first person shooters in general. I've never really had a game bring that out before Destiny. In that effort, I realized there was two distinct paths one may take; the easy way or the hard way. Its very easy to hop on the bandwagon and take the easy route to victory by the means of broken archetypes. IMO, hopping on that bandwagon in no way improves your skills. It is extremely evident the multitude of layers of skills required in order to be successful with fusion rifles as compared to any other special weapon type. I applaud you for going against the grain and honing your skillset.
Yes they can still be the most fun weapon class in the game, but also by far the most frustrating.
Fusion rifles and frustration have become synonymous after 2.0. I think you may have opened my eyes regarding the fusion beams/bolts despawning. My specific frustration with fusion rifles as they are now is how they actually perform. I am unable to use a single fusion rifle for more than purpose. Let me explain that further. I noticed in your video you are using the Thesan FR4. I love that fusion, and I use it a lot as well. However, i cannot get really close range kills using the Thesan for the life of me. I have to switch to a faster charge rate Split Shifter Pro to be successful at close range. But choosing to only go for close range kills immediately puts me at the disadvantage at longer range kills a Thesan would easily achieve. In effect, a fusion rifle can really only be effective in a narrow range. When you compare that to a single sniper rifle, it's almost ridiculous how easy it is to be effective at literally any range. That in it of itself rubs me the wrong way, and I do not understand how the Development Team cannot see the inherent imbalance in that.
Instead of always asking for nerfs, try challenging yourself to be better.
You said it perfect. TL;DR Awesome video, this is true MOTW quality. For everyone out that salty about PVP remember one thing, #getgud before you cry nerf.
