Last Word: Please revise changes

I don't know which tester was satisfied with the gun's performance, but it really doesn't work in Crucible as it is now. Last Word has no range, even when maxed out it is lower than most shotguns. The ammo economy is terrible, not even counting the fact that you will use six shots to kill someone on average. The stability, one of Last Word's greatest bonuses, is useless. I loved this gun since I got it week three or four from Xur. I listened to all my buddies down me for getting it, calling it a waste of strange coins and a terrible exotic. I was dominant in year one because of my excellence with this gun. But, it was too powerful. I believe that this weapon should be designed around close quarters engagements. But close quarters, does not translate to sub par shotgun range. Seriously, a range of 10 on an exotic primary? Even the western duels that you glorified and modeled this weapon by had at least a 20 foot standoff distance. But if you were to keep the range this low, shouldn't the stability be maxed out? In the patch notes, you were comfortable with auto rifles being maxed in either range or stability. Why not use that model for the weapons in general? Then to really bring the pain and drive the gun fully into the dirt, you didn't increase the magazine size? How is a weapon with poor range, stability, and mag size. allowed to be thrown into a game where the chances to beat a shotgun within seven feet, unlikely at best? The weapon should to be returned to to it's previous state of usefulness, with a range profile similar to Patch 2.0 Thorn. I love this weapon, and the changes made to it really seem to be a purposeful reduction in effectiveness. You say you have been listening to your players Bungie. Will I get any feedback regarding improvements to the Last Word? Or will my effort to provide reasonable feedback be pointless?

  • It's fine where it is. A guy that I went against last night got 32 kills with it, just because it takes actual skill to use it doesn't make it bad.

    • I advise you all to re-read the patch notes. Handcannons got a range deduction across the board, as well as an ADS accuracy reduction. The Last Word, on top of all these changes, received a range reduction of 50%, and another stability reduction. To pile on the hurt, hand cannons also received a final accuracy decrease as to prevent rapid firing. That means that the Last Word has received multiple range and stability reductions, and an accuracy penalty to firing rapidly. I do understand that players bare hatred against the gun, but they nerfed the Last Word more than any other gun in the patch, even more than they did thorn...Because Thorn is still pretty good.

The thing that annoys me is they nerfed stability by almost 50%, when the only thing that really needed fixing was the exotic perk bonus damage and accuracy processing on both hipshots and precision hits, instead of just hipshots. Most of the range complaints probably resulted because of the bonus accuracy incorrectly processing while ADS.

    • The crying nerf-bunny hordes demanded the Last Word get neutered, and Bungie complied. Not much can be done at this point I am afraid. R.I.P. Last Word...

    • TLW was broken in year one. It had a lower TTK than most HMG's and far too much effective range and stability considering said TTK.

TLW is not meant to be a long range hand cannon. Handcannons are inherenty midrange weapons, but TLW was designed to be an up close handcannon. Was it overnerfed yes, does it need the range of ANY version of Thorn, hell no. The stability does need an increase and it's range could be a touch longer, but for the most part it's still a good gun if you can aim with it and aren't too far out. If the range goes even to close/midrange, they need to reduce the mag size to 6 to compensate, that way any more than 1 or 2 missed shots and you won't get the kill.
