I've been playing guitar for about 8 years now and I have rock smith for my computer but never play it. Do you really think the game has improved anything for you? I love testing new tools to see if I can get even a slight better.

I'm pretty sure I got the basics down about 7 and 1/2 years ago.

yeah, it's not really for advanced players but you can still have fun. the mastery mode removes the notes from the screen and there are educational arcade minigames controller by a guitar. also a score-attack style arcade mode. it teaches cords, techniques, etc. 2014 edition also has a session mode so you can do whatever practice you want with a virtual band.

Well I only got it today, so I cant say anything much yet. I havent played guitar in 10 years and for the few years I did, I never took it seriously and couldnt really "get into it"... I think/hope my three biggest problems back then will be solved by using Rocksmith: (1) not getting the sound I need for what I play to actually resemble what it should... I didnt want to blow thousands on a good amp and pedals and all that, so I just just to grind through that phase and that was not motivating; (2) Timing; I could play some stuff, but my timing was just so brutal that it sounded like crap; (3) "style" (like knowing how long or how much to bend, or to give the right amount of sustain... I honestly never even thought about that stuff until today, when I was using the game. So yeah, I think it will help; at least I hope so. Those are some big hurdles that discouraged me before. Plus, I am tone deaf and didnt want to learn music theory, so I didnt know what the fk "drop D" required me to do, and my guitar I used to play out of tune often until a guitar playing buddy came and tuned it for me... eventually I bought a tuner and that helped... but still, I like the idea of knowing my guitar is in the proper tune for a particular song. But anyways, thats all hopeful thinking/assessment.. I will wait and see if the game delivers on these things for me.
