I feel like they should at least make it so you can make a fireteam without a subscription. Just no Strikes, Raids, Crucible, or Gambit.

Why not just make it the whole thing? And what subscription are you referring to? Bungie.net is free and is already linked to whatever current platform you play on (sort of), why not just make it universal?

They are almost certainly talking about PS+ or MS Live. I wasn't aware you could even start the game without either of them to be fair.
