The problem of audio from your TV getting into your microphone is called feedback and you are stuck with it as long as you insist on this kind of set-up. You are asking for a microphone not to pick up audio, which it is designed to do. You can get microphones that are effective at noise cancelling - they won't pick up anything but voice or beyond a few feet, so you may get an effective balance with the right one, but it will likely cost you money. If you still want to go with TV sound, ditch the cheap Sony earbud and search for a quality Bluetooth set.
My first Sony bluetooth sets picked up laundry drying in the next room through a closed door, while my later Sony full headsets with faux surround sound did a much more effective job of noise cancellation. I like having a good headset going since the days of sound-whoring in COD, so I have been getting progressively better and more expensive headsets each time. I have been using a set of Turtle Beach PX4s (not the greatest, but decent) since I got my PS4 and they are a decent wireless set with a battery that lasts though long gaming sessions easily.

Edited by m00ninite: 1/22/2015 5:40:09 PMOkay so you're partially right, but have made some assumptions that I thought I already covered. First, I understand the concept of feedback and that the mic I will need must have at least some level of noise-cancelling, as I recognized this in my post by saying I am looking for a higher quality mic. Also, I have to play with settings further tonight as maybe my mic sensitivity is just cranked way too high (although I don't think this is the case). That being said, there seem to be lots of options out there for higher quality mics that still offer mono sound, it's just about finding one that plays nice with the PS4. Telemarketers, etc, use this style headset all the time and isolate their voices without picking up all the background noise. Next, any Bluetooth headsets that are not Sony brand have been disabled to work with the PS4. I tried with my LG set that I used for my cell phone as well as my PS3 and no luck at all. So this being the case, it really starts limiting most options I find for PS4 to full headphones, which I have also addressed multiple times as to why I do not prefer them. Also wireless is not something I care to deal with in needing to keep another device charged, even if you say they seem to last through a session. For all these reasons, I picked up a set of the Turtle Beach P4C on lunch today and am going to give them a try since they seem to fit the bill on what I'm looking for.

I thought feedback was a given concept, but had to start somewhere because I can't really relate to having to have the TV sound on. Obviously your needs are different. Now, Sony's decision to keep the bluetooth encrypted is pretty screwed up, but I had thought they may have allowed other manufacturers in by now. Even my Sony headset didn't work with the PS4 until a patch 3 months after the launch. You obviously know what you need, so can't really add anything here. I do find the mix of chat and game audio adjustment a little muddy on my TB PX4 headset, and while it is superior to my old Sony set, at least the Sony had a built in adjustment to crank chat separately from game. It would be nice if companies gave us more ways to use their products instead of funneling us only to their own brand.

You are not talking about the sony blutooth headset are you? I thought you still cannot use it for the ps4. It would be great if they patched that.

Just looked it up, still no blutooth support.

No, I mentioned Sony Bluetooth first and then referred to the Sony headset (http://us.playstation.com/ps3/accessories/pulse-wireless-stereo-headset-ps3.html) , which has been compatible with the PS4 for a year now, but wasn't originally. At first you could only use chat if plugged directly into the controller, after the patch you could enable the chat without the cable like normal bluetooth wireless. AFAIK, this patch was only for certain Sony products, as my TB set still has to plug into my controller for chat.

I agree we need variety! Seems like Bungie isn't the only company who struggles there ;) As for my needs, I THINK I know exactly what I want but how it plays out is another story. Hoping that today with the new set my friends can't hear my TV anymore, haha. If they can then I will begin my search into full headphones :(
