Try the afterglow headsets.
Here is why. They won't activate unless your actually talking. You can change settings on your PS4 sound only chat comes through the headset and game goes through the tv.
The downside of not having to gameplay come through the headset is lower sound quality.
My X12's allow me to hear the sounds that chests and materials make. If you think that isn't such a big deal well it is. I went from 60-70 per hour to 90-100 per hour.
I understand why you like the sound of tv instead of headsets, but once you start to use headsets you will get use to having get and sound both run through the headset.
You can adjust very easily the game sound vs chat. I for one have game a quarter of the volume and chat always maxed. When your chatting with other game sound isn't as important as to communicate with others.

So you're saying suck it up and accept having a mix in my headset? Haha. I mean, if it comes down to it I may have no choice, but I think I may try the Turtle Beach P4C's first since they meet all my criteria of being wired, offer mono chat only, etc.

I'm telling you for $70 bucks pick up a pair of afterglow headset and try both ways.

I've used headphones with a mix before and I wasn't really a fan. I'm still not sure what set you're actually suggesting I try though, the X12? What's afterglow? I don't know what you mean either by lower quality sound by not having a mix. My TV audio quality is fine, and mono for voice in the earbud is fine..

They are noise canceling headphones for a lot cheaper then turtle beach headsets that have noise canceling.
