I don't really understand what your problem is with mixed game sound and chat (genuine question). You will be able to balance them so that the chat volume is correct in comparison with game sounds.
Personally I use the Sony wireless headset for PS4, and I have the game sounds relatively low in comparison with the chat volume overlaid and it works a treat!

I just really prefer them separated. It's more realistic to me as I've used headsets when out playing paintball or airsoft, etc, and having simply just mono chat in your head makes it infinitely clearer. I know levels can be balanced but I just would prefer it the other way, that's all. My one friend last night was getting real mad at me over this and why I can't accept a mix since "all the sound is coming to your ears eventually anyway", lol, but it's just preference.

Yeah fair enough. I can't really help you re: getting a better noise cancelling mic I'm afraid. I used to use a fairly normal bluetooth headset (for a mobile phone) back on PS3, and I don't think there was much background noise there (they are designed for use in cars etc I suppose) so might be worth trying one out. Good luck!

PS4 has disabled support for third party bluetooth headsets as far as I know. It sees my LG device but will not pair. Reddit seems to agree that this sucks right now, haha. Starting to think I should've bit the bullet and paid Microsoft for an XBone. I hate that company but more and more PS4 shortcomings become evident to me daily. Maybe Uncharted 4 later this year will help me forget all about these though, I can hope.

That sucks, but things can surely never be bad enough to warrant giving Micro$oft any of your money!

I think he is asking about a noise cancelling mic on a mono headset. The problem is the sony mic on the headset that came with the ps4 picks up everything and can be annoying to people on the other end.... I have no solutions as I am looking for the same thing.

I wanted to just use my LG bluetooth headset like on my PS3, it worked amazing, but they locked out all third party devices now? Insane.

Exactly I loved my ps3 sony blutooth it was perfect for me. I was quite angry to find out it does not work for the ps4. I have a nice surround sound set up, I do not need it in a headset.

Ah, I didn't know that! So my suggestion above is not so good!
