I know how you feel. I'm a bit different. I missed vog completely, I was quite ill for a while and couldn't talk or play for long periods. I've managed to get into a Team once, went strait through and it was great but I'm struggling to find a group that'll take someone inexperienced anymore. Everyone had moved on or expects you to know exactly what to do!
I'm really lucky that I've found a clan now. I'd really recommend finding a good one, with similar ways of playing as yourself. I've done ce about three times now, in bits. Currently my problem is timing, as they are mainly American and I'm uk.
For a really good guide I'd recommend searching for kingothalion's raid clinic on YouTube. Three destiny steamers ran the raid with three viewers who'd either never done it or never done it without cheese. It's the entire raid in one video so you get a good feel for how each part goes.
I'm hoping I get to do the raid again this week. I did get an invite earlier so I grabbed my gear and jumped into..... Hard mode vog, for some reason they decided to do that instead of ce so I had to leave!

Nice. I'll look that video up. And I to clans. I always imagine clans as like 'we do this every night between 8 and 10 or your out'
-
Not at all. I've been in four clans now, the first three I'd write on their group forum, I'd message members but nothing at all. No interaction. Then when I moved to ps4 someone recommended dames of destiny as a friendly female clan. Obviously I can't recommend it, unless you happen to be a woman! Basically there's an introduction forum, and a raid sheet. I'll put my name down and a time I'm on, and if enough people put their names down I'll get an invite at the time that's most convenient. Or I'll get a message saying - raid in two hours? Or something. No pressure, you're free to say sorry, something's come up. There are clans with strict rules, all members must raid once a week or must be available for nightfalls or whatever. That's just not ok for a lot of people. He key is finding a clan that meshes with your own ideals.

A lot aren't like that, that's how I feel about joining one too but you just have to find the right one. I think there's a dads of destiny group you would probably fit in nicely with.. Don't go for the hardcore ones where people want to punch you if you aren't playing a game as good as them
-
Yea. That's what I think when I hear clan. Like those guys who rush for first in raids or fastest time. Etc.
-
Yes I joined one and happened to be in available that week as I was working long hours. I got a snotty message saying if you're in this clan you have to participate, or be kicked. I left!
-
Awful. That's exact what I don't want to have to deal with.

It's fine though, you just leave. I'd recommended following or joining some groups like dads of destiny and seeing how the interaction is in the message feed. Then requesting to join the clan if you get on with them. I follow several clan/groups and I'm a member of several groups but only one clan.
