In Crota's universe, he's powerful enough to do pretty much anything (within certain limitations of course) Grimoire states that he was powerful enough to make the whole universe he dwells in. He can even summon the Oversoul to instant kill. It's not a stretch to say he can get a new sword.

  • Right but they so much emphasis as to give it its own dedicated story mission, so you'd think it should be somewhat special.

It's a side mission. Not even required of you to play it to beat the game. It's the Sword Crota used when he came to the Moon. Doesn't mean he can't get a new one.

  • Yea it's a side mission but still. Why have it only to be useless. Like why would the guardian waste his time destroying a sword that can just be respawned.

It's not that the sword is just respawned. What part of "universe that he can do anything in" concept don't you understand. In Crota's universe, he can make a new sword. In our universe, he probably wouldn't have gotten another sword as powerful. Also, the sword he used on the Moon "drained the Light of anything it touched" and it doesn't seem that this new sword does that.
