You have to have a set team:
2 people shooting boomers ( Knights ) preferable people with ice breakers. They can also DPS on Crota for a brief time to lower shields. This is their only job! It's important they stay focused on this one task.
1 sword runner. This person holds the chalice unless others need it. Their entire job is to get the sword and beat Crota with it
3 the remaining 3 people help shoot thrulls and down the sword-bearer. Once the sword-bearer is down they DPS on Crota. They call out when Crota is at 1/4 shields so the sword runner can be right there as Crota starts to kneel.
Additional notes:
- You want to get 2 sessions of hitting Crota per sword.
- wait till Crota is middle to kill the sword-bearer
- after every 2nd sword-bearer orges come and you want to run lower middle.
- missing one session beating Crota with the sword is NOT a wipe. You usually have 1 extra session with the sword before he enrages.
Since my team and I have adopted this method we have beat Crota twice. It's all about people doing a single job.

2 people on boomers aren't totally necessary, it's nice, but last night we beat him fairly easily with one (me) up top killing knights. I focused on the left guys the majority of the time, only shooting the right guys when the sword dropped and we were focused on crota. Ended up going smoothly once we got in sync.

Edited by Daz: 12/16/2014 5:33:35 PMI held down the boomers solo last night also (though I do have a maxed ice breaker 2.0). Every once in a while I'd call for help when they'd spawn in weird pattern but other than that, it's a breeze solo. I never once dropped a shot on the right side Knights.

This is the only way we've beaten him. Weapons of light just before the stairs to the left drops crota faster for the sword bearer.
