For now, I'm being factual about the DLC and the experience it is designed to deliver. You'll need to make your own choices about what you believe to be the value of these things. They represent a sincere effort on our part to entertain you. Dissecting the videos we released during the exploration of what we wanted Destiny to be is an education on the chaos of development. Things change. We adapt to what we learn. Sometimes, we abandon what we think isn't working. You're asking for transparency, but also punishing us for over-sharing the nuances of our creative process by taking concept work as promises. I give vague answers because the things I say amount to checks the team has to cash. I've never lied to you. I knew I would love playing Destiny with this community, and I do. I invited people to join me in this game, and I'm having a blast playing it. You are welcome to express yourself if you're not satisfied, but I'd love to arrive in a world where such sinister accusations didn't compete with the conversation about how we can make Destiny better. Your opinions about Destiny are valid. I'd love to learn from them. I came to this forum looking for feedback I could share with the team. Conspiracy theories about how we're trying to screw you distract from the mission you want me to execute for you. Can we be friends or what?

 • This is the first post I've seen from Deej that wasn't vague and anger inducing. Well done Deej. *Slow clap*

 • I love playing destiny and that won't change because it's a fun game, but when you say there are things you guys had to abandon during the development I think what you mean is you completely abandoned a well thought out story and just wrote some bs on a piece of paper and shoved in between your butt cheeks for a good wiping and then called it good. I hope for stronger character customization (for both aesthetics and gameplay mechanics) and a story that wasn't written by a retarded 3rd grader in destiny 2. Then you will have my FULL attention and not just my attention when my friends are on.

 • Yeah, 749, part of trending........oh yeah agree with the viciousness thing. Just create a stamp, that communicates you were there but felt it was delivered unconstructively, then leave the post. Or post the "why cant we be friends? Why cant we be friends" song.

 • A fair amount of us are trying to explain the relevancy of positive feedback through forum threads. Positive feedback in no way means providing kudos and accepting destiny for what it is in its current state. Instead we try to promote constructive criticism and detailed explanations over how we feel. If we can get rid of the trolls and irrelevant information we, the community, would be glad to provide you with that which you seek regarding feedback, both positive and negative. No one on here can tell you that they don't want a better product for their investment.

 • Are we being trolled again DeeJ? I don't know or trust you so no, we can't be friends. It's a good story you told there. Better then the one in the game itself...

 • You did lie. You said we were being trolled by the first allegations of on-disc DLC. There was no file to download meaning it was on-disc. Go cash your checks you greedy assholes.

 • Remember that 2.5GB file called "the big update to prepare for the Dark Below" that everyone downloaded a week before December 9? Well that actually was the Dark Below's new content. The size of the file is evidence of this cause only new content could be that large. Nobody lied to you. In fact they did you a favor. They knew ppl would just want to jump right into the new content without waiting to download it. So they had everyone download it a week before instead so you can enjoy it instantly.
I've never lied to you.
Debatable. Maybe not entirely intentional, but you have stretched the truth on many occasions. Simple things, like:
An upgraded Exotic is more powerful right out of the box
Yet the the example you provide is the perfect example of why this isn't true. A 302 Thorn without DOT or stability does 20-30% less damage for most users than a fully upgraded previous gen thorn. Same goes for Suros, Gjallarhorn, etc. You can't use a slight damage increase as an excuse. You should have just left that line out, because it was clearly going to be frustrating to the very players who watch their damage and are upset about the changes, but you didn't. Big deal? not really, no. Nitpicky on my part? yeah. but it is just one example of many where it feels like you are swallowing the company Kool-Aid rather than speaking for or with the community. That's why many of us have trouble trusting your statements, even when we really want to. You do it again here in this very post:
They represent a sincere effort on our part to entertain you.
Major design decisions in Dark Below/1.1 are made clearly to force extended gameplay, not to entertain. They are textbook tactics from past MMOS. This again rings of partial truth.
You're asking for transparency, but also punishing us for over-sharing the nuances of our creative process by taking concept work as promises. I give vague answers because the things I say amount to checks the team has to cash.
Most of us aren't punishing for nuances. Yes, some vocal minority goes ape crazy over stupid stuff, and some of us may discuss nuances, but generally we just want the big design concepts to be sane - things like proper story telling and fair gameplay/activities/content updates for non-PVP and/or non-raid focused players. Things like fun dynamic gameplay that brings us back without forced grinding mechanisms. These aren't things that are just based on the statements Bungie employees have made in the past, but also on foundations of good game design. Destiny has failed in these areas in many ways and Bungie's unwillingness to be forthcoming and honest about these issues without all your vague sugar coating is what is driving people crazy. Look at Mass Effect 3. The story was a failure to many players. Bioware didn't placate the users with vague BS, they stood up and talked to the players (and it wasn't just one person hired in a PR roll either, at least on the forums it was multiple staff members from various facets inside the development, production, and community teams), admitting they could see where players had issues, and some staff even agreeing with players, but the company as a whole defending it's position and then *strengthing* their own position with extended story to flesh out what was done. The players still weren't all happy with the story, but I think more people walked away respecting Bioware for being (mostly) honest with their players and taking a stance on their position rather than the wishy-washy BS that Bungie has provided - almost solely through you as their mouth rather than the words of employees that feel like they are the heart and soul of the company. You also say we are reacting to things said during early development. This isn't true. Many statements about the gameplay come from right before release or even marketing material, especially as it relates to story and "cinematic experience". Statements were made very recently about the Dark Below addressing player concerns about story, but instead it serves as a prime example of how shallow Destiny's story is and how much the storytelling is lacking. The missions are fun but the story is actually even more lacking than the original, and Eris-the-story-teller feels like just another flat NPC.
Can we be friends or what?
I'd like to, I really would, but I'm an introverted dork who can only make friends with people I feel I can really trust. As long as you keep spinning the company line without having more open, honest discussion, I just don't feel like I can trust you. Not as a community manager, not as a Bungie employee, not as a friend. I'm sorry, I really am, but that's where I stand for now.

 • Couldn't have said it any better, DeeJ. Admittedly I've tried. Constructive criticism has always been my one in the chamber. But it usually ends in a fiasco. Due to all of the self-righteous, self-entitled keyboard warriors that the world owes favors to.

 • I've complained quite a bit about this game but I appreciate the response. I was expecting more but the game is solid and I have had a good time playing it. I hope to see it evolve into something even better.

 • I think the bottom line is, we understand that things change in development. The problem with this is that if the game changed so much before release then "we" the customers should have been warned about it. Bungie knew it was not the game they showed us, yet never told us about all the content they had to scrap.

 • What I don't understand why is Bungie have gone out of their way to create an "Open World Game" that is supremely lifeless and absurdly boring. Have anyone at Bungie not played any Open World Rockstar or Bethesda game from the last Decade!? playing chess must make Destiny's developers heart-rates soar. Giantbomb is already saying it's in the lead for "Most Disappointing Game of the Year" How this travesty was allowed to be released in this abyssmal state is mind-blowing.

 • That was a fair response. I love this game and I also see some of the issues people gave and wish didn't exist. I understand the fury I just choose to let the fun out do the previewed injustices. Deej some of your posts I have found so vague they were off putting. This one explains a few things and puts things back in us, the gamer, to make a choice. You out up with a lot. Thanx for listening and doing your part to make the game what it is.
