I think you mean superbounces. Bxr and other button combos that skipped frame animations were considered cheating by Bungie.

According to whom? If they did think it was "cheating" they made absolutely no effort to stop it. If you wanted to compete at any high level tournament it was almost essential to have a decent BXR or even a double shot.

Edited by ManBearPigIets: 10/18/2014 9:51:06 PMAccording to Bungie...they had a whole page about how it was cheating, and if you actually played the game it would occasionally show a pop up on your screen during matchmaking that said "BXR, yes, it's cheating". MLG etc. were full of cheaters, that's pretty much what it was based on. But since they were doing it locally on LAN, not on Bungie's servers, it was up to them how to play.

Sorry, having played more halo 2 online than most and never once seeing a message or anything, I'm gonna call bullshit on that. Not sure where you heard this.
-
Edited by ManBearPigIets: 10/18/2014 9:59:54 PMI didn't hear it anywhere. I saw it. Repeatedly. You must have been blind. They also specifically mentioned button combos skipping frame animations, because I remember that phrasing, but I can't remember exactly where they said it (I assume in a weekly update or something).

That screams fake

Edited by ManBearPigIets: 10/18/2014 10:02:09 PMYeah, even though anyone who played the game would see it on their screen. And they were synced, so we would all see it on the screen at the same time, and comment on them with the rest of the party. That one in particular would usually get mentioned. Not my fault people either haven't played the game, or have terrible memories.

I played on Xlink Kai because of reasons, so I didn't ever see this kind of message, my apologies. True that they couldn't patch a game after release back on the original xbox so it makes sense they would push a message this way as they probably WNF'd (will not fix) the issue before the game launched, definitely something the QA team would've come accross
-
I actually still have some friends on xbl that I originally met on Kai, good stuff. It was too bad the 360 had that ping limit so everyone stopped being able to use it to system link other than on older games. Found a video of someone going through some of the messages, the bxr one pops up at about 30 seconds, if you're interested.
-
Lol that's a joke. Seriously. They would've patched it (like they patched the other shit that was wrong at first).
-
I can vouch for the legitimacy of that Ingame message. Even so, I interpreted it as bungie just poking fun, and saying they know about it. (Not even sure if bungie had the capabilities or wanted to bother fixing it though)
-
They would have if they could have. It's not like there is some magic switch which lets them just turn it off...
-
Also: Bungie allowed you to report people for "cheating". I've never ever ever ever ever heard of anyone being banned for using a button combo. If Bungie considered it cheating, it would follow that people would have been reported for it and, therefore, banned. Sorry man, it was just a joke.
-
I believe you that it was on there, I just don't believe that it wasn't a joke. It was never formally addressed or anything. Bungie put a lot of jokes in the loading screens... Either way, if their definition of "cheating" is pressing buttons on my controller to win at a video game, they're confusing it with "winning". Sorry but that's just stupid.
