Unable to join - request timed out

Ok, I know a lot of people have had this problem at one time or another, but in all the searches I've done, I cannot find a solution. So a I've been teaming up with a few friends lately, they always invite me, no problem. Then all the sudden, every time I try to join their game, I get the "unable to join" and "request timed out" messages. This is super annoying and I don't know what to do. Again, my research has turned up nothing that's seemed to help. I've rebooted my modem and router, checked my xbox live network connection which was fine, made sure my NAT was set to open, and I can connect to matchmaking games regularly, but not when I try to join a friends game. This is ruining my xbox live/halo 3 experience. Does anyone have an actual answer for this problem? Thanks in advance. PAINSLOTH

 • PAINSLOTH, i've only experienced problems joining friends when one of their NATs was closed, and only experienced the time out thing when I go to join my friend at the same time that they've gone to join me lol

 • When I get something ike this, I usually power everything off and power back on. That tends to fix it, but every once in awhile it will still not work... It's more of a random thing that happens to me.

 • I get this every once and awhile. It usually doesn't happen often. Check if your NAT is closed/moderate/open. Make sure it's open. edit: nevermind, you did that. [Edited on 04.08.2008 9:11 AM PDT]

 • I am experiencing the same problems. My friend and I used to play doubles all the time, then one day we suddenly cannot join eachother anymore. We changed nothing. We both checked our NAT stuff, resetted our routers all that - nothing. I hope someone has an answer soon.

 • The nat setting is set to open. I've only had these problems since the update...so the update certainly didn't *fix* anything. Playing with friends is half the fun of halo 3. Why doesn't Bungie have a FAQ or something to solve this?

 • Hi. I have (had) the same problems, buddy. Whenever I wanted to join the games of two particular friends, the game wouldn't let me. It'd just say "because of Open/... NAT". Okay. I do have Open NAT, so I open a game. But my friends cannot join. And likewise, though, their NAT is moderate or even worse. Weird. Since the update, it seems to work again - with major lags and headset-downtimes, sometimes. When you talk, the headset "stutters" your words to the user's ears. Unfortunately, that only happens when I opened a game. Again, I cannot check if it works well or bad when they opened one, because I cannot join most of the time. I can only join if we do it via some other people. You're not the only one. Oh, by the way: The two friends live like 3 kilometers away from my house. It cannot be the cable or anything like that, at all.

 • I find it hard to believe no one on here has run into this problem...what's the fix?

 •
Posted by: PAINSLOTH Also, this problem started after I downloaded and installed the 1.1 patch. Is this just a coincedence?
I would say coincedence, I played last night with no problems, I only play 6 games right enough, but certainly had no issues.
