We already knew the game wouod not be cross platform (xbox playing playstation) but, I just read an article today where one of the developers mentioned that destiny would NOT be cross generation capable by choice. This is unfortunate considering this means my friends and i will no longer be able to play the game together.
Why not instead of dissallowing it perhaps making it a selection say in a matchmaking tab in the settings menu. By default just your console would be selected putting you just in games with folks of your console, but if you select more options the system would allow you to then be paired with players of those consoles who have conversly selected yours (ex. Xbox360 player selects xbox one as well allowing him to play with xbox one players who have also selected to play with xbox 360 players)

Edited by Tyr-Thanatos: 8/1/2014 1:46:12 AMBungie engineer Roger Wolfson, says this is because better tech can influence gameplay factors in the shooter genre. "I'll speak for the hypothetical player," Wolfson told Digital Trends. "I have a disadvantage sniping across the map because [my opponent with a next-gen console] is only two pixels on my screen and I'm four pixels on his. You see that in the world of PC gaming, where people are always racing to the best video card to give themselves the advantage." "Regardless of where the reality is, there's definitely a perception among gamers that better hardware means you have an advantage. We don't want to have to enter that fray, so to create the best, most level playing field, both actually and perceptually, we separated it by platform."
