NOTE: I gave up on this game like four months ago, if you see no more updates on this forum, you know why, lol.
Bungie, please read! The community has spoken!
Since Destiny will be spanning throughout the Solar System on a variety of Moons, Planets and other Space locations, a Planetary Event could focus all of a Guardians on one planet as an effort to halt the Darkness from progressing further through the Solar System.
For example, if a Planetary Event happens from Friday to Sunday, and the Cabal start a raid at a specific location on any of the planets, all players will recieve a notification from the Vanguards that any of the locations in Destiny are currently under an invasion and that they are needed immediately. These events would award players with a range of loot, depending on how much work and effort they put into the event. These events may also act like Darkness Zones, heavily relying on teamwork, since you will have to revive your fellow Guardians.
The Defense Events would contain a series of objectives that would need to be completed in order for the invasion to be halted. For the weekend the event takes place, constant waves of enemy ships would drop off troops on the surface of a location. Players would be able to join in the event at any moment during the hours it is active, so they are not forced to arrive at a specific time. In order to be successful, the players must hold off a several waves of enemies while defending targets from them. The Defense Event would most likely take the group of people between 20 and 30 minutes each time they are in patrol mode, before the enemy would stop advancing. Several other objectives may occur while fighting in these events such as killing certain bosses or destroying equipment, but would be randomized to make sure that each of the experiences are unique. Once the areas are defended and the waves of enemies are fended off, you will be notified at the event of YOUR victory on halting there invasion, earning you rewards for your duties. However, if you fail to do so, whether it was to protect the objectives from the enemies or the players are eliminated by the enemies, the area will be invaded by that species at the end of the event depending on the results, making it far more dangerous than it was before. The area will have an increased amount of enemies for a limited amount of days, presumably a week at max, making it more difficult to travel around that part of the map alone. While the enemies are in possession of that area, their levels will NOT be higher at all. The main and only change at that location is the problem of having to fight a substantial amount of enemies for the limited amount of time.
Once the last day the event is active has reached an end, the results would be determined by checking the percentage of successes and failures that happened throughout Destiny. (The limited amount of time the enemies stay around that area can maybe be influenced on how bad the failure percentage was in comparison to the success percentage.) As the event reaches the end of its limit, you'll either recieve another notification from the Vanguards of the current status of the mission, or you will receive a message from the Ghost telling you the outcome. It would be very important for the Destiny community to work together to stop the attack, otherwise it will make it more difficult when you go back to that area.
After the one week passes, another event could appear for a battle to take back the area. This would allow the Guardians to play the offensive side of the battle this time. During an Attack Event, you would do the opposite of the Defense Event. Instead of defending points from the enemies, you would have to capture points from the enemies. After the points are taken, the remaining enemies would have to be eliminated, with a boss battle soon after they are killed. Once the boss is destroyed, the area is finally yours again. When the players succeed in taking back the area, things will revert to their original state, but if the Guardians fail to take back the area, it will remain as the enemies' territory. We would have to wait another week before we get a second chance to take back the area again.
If the player has not unlocked access to all of the locations within Destiny, they can only partake in the locations they currently have. Knowing this, players would feel excited and encouraged to finish the campaign. When all locations are finally unlocked, this would ensure that the player will never miss an experience at this scale.

He has spoken!! Please Bungie hear this man out!! Great Idea :)

Just to clarify, if you lose the event, the enemies difficulty will NOT increase, the amount of enemies within the area will increase. This means that if you are a low level, you will just have to fight more enemies, and they will still all be the same level as you, so there is technically nothing impossible or too difficult for the lower leveled players. :)

Very nice idea. We have seen similar ideas in other MMOs like the Ring Cycle I'm EQ2. These kind if total world events are very cool. 100% support here

Midnight Approves!

This would be amazing! Altho there are more factors to think about. If you where to lose and the invading race would claim that planet or zone.. Going through there on low level for your normal campaign quests etc would make this rather hard if not impossible. Another thing is timezones for the events.. Im a europian myself and having events like this happen in the middle of the night isn't going to work for most of the europian players.. And i've not even started about the aussies. Its like this iron banner where i sit up in the middle of the night to be able to play the iron banner event :P Your idea's however are really nice and personally i would like to seem them set into motion

I love this idea it would be fun to just pool all guardian resources to a single location and give all the baddies hell! The only thing I would disagree with is the making of the area harder for a week in the event that the outcome is negative. Just because it is unfair to all the people who couldn't play that they have to suffer. Incentive for doing this should solely be placed on the possibility for amazing loot IMO
-
YES! I thought the mini wars between the fallen and hive were awesome. Just a 2 hour Full blown war on a specific planet would be fantastic!
-
Like an war 2hour event
-
This is a great idea. Hopefully Bungie takes a look at it!
-
This would be rather awesome to have happen as it would provide a common interest for everyone's sake however these events would only happen in peak times and the players are all around the world so while this is an awesome idea I'm not so sure how it could be implemented in such a way where the loot and rewards are fair game for everyone. Especially when these events unlike the public events won't be able to be happening all the time, then you have the potential if not done spectacularly there could be some latency issues that might be more trouble than they're worth. This is still an awesome idea but putting it into practice, I can only imagine that could be quite tricky. I myself am an Australian Gamer, this means I play during the day while America is just about to go to bed (this occurs during Australian work hours) and I play at night, but it isn't until 11:30pm roughly in Australian time that Americans wake up. As an Australian gamer I play on the opposite side of the world as far as the majority of gamers is concerned and if something like this did happen I'm positive that I and many others who will being playing destiny would like to be apart of something like this.
-
An excellent idea! I really hope they consider adding this!
-
Good idea.
-
The idea is a great one. Time will tell if it gets implemented.
-
It sounds sort of like a longer-lasting Public Event that spans an entire Explore zone. Love it.
-
It could be server based. For example, each server holds 12 guardians. The event would take place in that particular server, so that it would count towards the overall victory. Then, if you wanted to do the event again, you would just rejoin or something, and it would be as if you went to another section of the battlefield. This could be the system that determines the overall result. If X amount of servers succeed, then this formula would take place. (X% of servers that participate succeed, then the condition is victory. If less than X% of servers succeed, then the condition is failure.) However, if X amount if servers do not succeed, then the condition is automatically fail. Example: At least 10 servers need to win their events. Otherwise, if less than 10 servers succeed, the condition is a failure. If more than 10 succeed, then they need to maintain a 75% victory rate, or the condition is a failure. The reasoning behind this is so that you don't just have 1 server (12 people) win for the whole entire community.

Big invasion + Large ammounts of players = funny stuff and loot like no tomorrow... Im for it.
-
This is a great idea and would fit well into the story. Great enough to basically get 100% vote on yes! This should be used.
-
I imagined all players called back to the tower and we gave to go outside the wall like a horde mode to fend off the darkness
-
1 ReplyMy only concern would be that the servers currently don't have more than 12 Guardians on them at a time making something like this fairly difficult to do. But if they could make it happen without sacrificing anything else hell yea I'm all for it!
-
It is unfortunate enough that we really won't go that far in the solar system, but this is still a great idea. Bungie would be sure to implement this at a later date, but, as for now, it probably won't make it at launch.
-
1 ReplyYou should post this on feedback it's an excellent suggestion :)
-
1 ReplyI don't think everyone should be forced into one planet, but it is certainly a good idea. Knowing bungie, they could probably make it interesting. Probably shouldn't have any on earth though, it might interfere with people new to the game.
-
Edited by CXD: 7/31/2014 4:10:44 AMIt's a good idea but i dont think it would be able to act as one event shared by all since the game is instanced. Hmm unless you're thinking more like "this many objective victories required," for all instances total, "until event victory" that'd be dope. I'd still worry for new players who go to a new planet and get molested because devil walkers were all over the place cx
maybe bungie beat you to it ;)
1 ReplyI was recently thinking on what a Siege event, or planetary defense as you put it, would play out as and how many people could do it. If I could pose an addition to your idea, while I love the idea of defending an area for an hour or so, with cover and such from the minions of Darkness, why not allow us to attack? Something akin to the D-Day landings perhaps? Large quantities of Guardians have to attack and take the area back, even possibly initiating more events afterwards, kind of like an all out war between an army of Guardians and an army of Vex or Hive, though there would be less Guardians then the enemy are numerous. I apologize for the run on sentences, just trying to get the full thought in one sentence. The possibilities are more or less endless right now, and just before the game drops, there is already so much content it seems. I am excited to see what the next decade brings for this game.

Bungie can do so much with Destiny that the game feel soooo rush.

I think this would be more fun than Wintergrasp with a bottle of rum! I had an idea for adding some variance to some raids for those who can hack it. Check it: After playing the beta, wouldn't it be awesome to have some levels, say the strikes, operate like some of the levels on Starfox 64? Where I'm getting at is in Starfox (for example) you can do the level where you ride in a tank and if you shoot ~7 switches (that are not illuminated and easily missed) along the way then the ending battle would be different (and your campaign path would be altered, but I'm not concerned with that.) Where this ties into to destiny is wouldn't it be cool to do a strike & say you are unable to return to some areas once you progress so far; within these areas when you are there are hidden objectives or objects that can be manipulated and if done appropriately would open up a secret boss or scenario yielding fatty loot. You could have to activate half a dozen circuit breakers, or kill all the mobs (like 50) in a room before killing the strongest mob there (say a wizard.) It could be a variety of things, but it is important that is something that your ghost or UI does not usually pick up and difficult to accomplish (even impossible alone, giving further incentives for teamwork)
