9 RepliesHow did these people voting 2 pass Algebra I?
-
By order of operations, you would divide 48 by 2 (24), than multiply that by (9+3). Which would give you 288

How the hell does anyone get 288?!

ITT: Retards.

2 RepliesThis is for the people who think that it's 2.

Needs more brackets to be able to tell. (48/2)*(9+3)=288 Or 48/(2(9+3))=2

2 RepliesEdited by The Waifu Master: 7/5/2014 10:12:52 PMGuys, guys. Guys. PE(MD)(AS) 48/2(9+3) P 48/2(12) = 48/2(12) Skip E M and D are done at the same time, from left to right, so two steps: 48/2(12) = 24(12) 24(12) = 288 Skip A and S. Sadly, most people don't understand the 3O like they should.

2 RepliesEdited by banj0: 7/5/2014 10:12:10 PMI'm relatively sure you add 9 and 3 in the brackets, then divide and multiply (to get 288), but I'm still waiting for Mr. Math to tear me a new arithmetic asshole. We know BIDMAS in Australia, and by that rule you would add 9 and 3, then divide and finally multiply, giving you 288.

1 ReplyEdited by kgj: 7/11/2014 4:10:17 AMnot again :/ due to the phrasing of the question the answer remains ambiguous but the preferred mathematical form is 288, for extremely complicated reasons. ask hurtful

14 Replies48/2 * (9+3) 24*12 288

BIDMAS says 288.

In my head I got 288, and the calc confirms it.

1 ReplyEdited by HurtfulTurkey: 7/11/2014 5:02:48 AMAs always when this thread is posted, the answer is 288. There's only one way to solve the problem, and if you got 2 I recommend you brush up on order of operations, because you're wrong. But don't worry, the question is designed to trick you. Turkey, out.

Edited by Atomic Tea: 7/11/2014 7:23:27 AM9+3=12 48/2=24 24(12) = 24 X 12 24 X 12=288 The answer is 288. Source: 3rd grade.
I don't think I need to edit in a spoiler, but I will just in case: This is bait.
This is the order IIRC: * 48 ÷ 2(9 + 3) * 48 ÷ 2(12) * 24(12) * 288

1 ReplyLMAO THESE KIDS 288 WTF IS LIFE WE LEARNED THIS SHIT IN JR HIGH THE ANSWER IS TWO AND IF YOU DONT BELIEVE ASK GOOGLE

Parenthesis first. 288.

9 RepliesHow are people making such horrible basic math mistakes? Division and multiplication are both done left to right with no preference for either. You always do what is inside the parentheses first. Therefore: 48/2(9+3) = 48/2(12) = 24(12) = 288
