The sum of (-1)^(n-1) doesn't equal a half. You can't just take an average, it doesn't work like that.

When it comes to infinite series it actually does work that way.

Again, I don't think so. I studied this series a few weeks ago, there are two values that the sum can equal depending if the power is positive or negative.
