The Marathon and Halo connection

Now Obviously everyone knows that there is definately a connection between Halo and Marathon. I believe that the Unamed Hero of Marathon is actually Master Chief himself. In the Legendary ending of Halo 3 It shows Chief heading to what looks like the Planet in Which Marthon took some time on. And at the end of The Marathon series The Unamed Hero goes back in time, to stop their war from happening. So that is when I think he goes back to stop the war between the Covenant and the Humans. To support my theory during all of the games or so mostly Halo 1 and 3 Guilty Spark has secret dialoge saying things like, "Reclaimer I thought you knew what you were doing, after all it has already happened." Things like the terminals aswell, if you actually read them, they tell of a person somewhat relating to MC and The Unamed hero--- Connection!

 • there is obviously a connection between the 2 as he said. They may not have crossing storylines, but there are things in Halo that are in Marathon...maybe a Bungie trademark, but a connection none-the-less

While many Bungie fans (including myself) would like nothing more than to find a direct connection between Halo and Marathon, it is not a simple task. Many people have been carefully dissecting both stories, making comparisons and finding contradictions since Halo launched over six years ago. In the end, the two universes contradict each other to the point that they can not be easily or directly connected. I won't go into all of the details here, but here is one of the latest of the myriad of threads on this topic. At the end of Marathon Infinity, the Security Officer did not travel back in time. During the course of Infinity, the Security Officer jumps between timelines, essentially switching to different versions of a similar reality in an effort to prevent the Pfhor from releasing the W'rkncacnter trapped in L'howon's sun. However, at the end of the game, he escapes the closure of the universe, which while a bit vague, does not mean that he went back in time. Edit: To say that there is absolutely no connection between Halo and Marathon is a bit simplistic. The two stories are not directly connected and the events of both games do not take place in the same universe. However, it would be incorrect to say that many things in Halo were not inspired by Marathon. [Edited on 12.13.2007 4:09 PM PST]

 • Master Chief is John from marathon but in a DIFFERENT fictional universe. Halo and Marathon are separate.

 • I think Halo is a Marathon prequel... but Microsoft owns the rights to Halo, so Bungie will not say that Marathon and Halo are connected. The next game will probably be a Marathon project. If Marathon and Halo were officially the same story, Bungie would have to make up a whole new project.

 • There is no connection. Bungie has said it. Plus the storylines don't match up. Guilty spark says those things because the forerunners fired the halos before. You can read about this in the terminals. And the planet Chief lands on in the end is a Forerunner shield planet.
