I think it would be a bad choice to add benefits to certain races. It puts off an unnecessarily contested feeling. I don't want to have to make any decisions on race aside from look. Stats take away from a races appeal physically and canonically.

That same statement could be said about class too. You could almost say, "why have any numbers besides the weapons" since class will decide what you're wearing and what special abilities you can use. I don't see how stats would take away from racial appeal, especially with the example I gave, and having it act on a canon scale is a bit extreme.

Yeah but there is a huge difference between race stats and Class choice. Picking a race with class stats is only making a choice based on "which choice is the best". Picking a class is based on gameplay style. Picking a race with a certain stat is like saying two people can be a heavy gunner, but the one that picked the better race will win. Picking a class is based on your personal play style. It's like saying these two classes can go head to head with eachother, but whoever is more skilled will win, because they based their choice around how they play.
-
I'm not saying place a whole list of stats on the race, i'm saying take one good thing, and one bad thing (or nothing bad) and then applying it to the races. You're right that the better skilled of two similar classes will win, but race wouldn't necessarily be the defining point. The person that plays the "weaker" could learn to adapt to not being as strong, while still having their preferred play style. This gives the Hardcore gamers a challenge, while the casuals can just go with numbers (I don't know, something that would involve too much thinking is where I was going with that)
-
Forcing people who pick the worst race to adapt to their poor choice? Yeah, sounds real smart.
-
It's not forcing, it's playing to the story through the racial choice. Unless you don't care about the story, it's seems pretty smart.
-
so according to the story some people are supposed to suck more than others?
-
Why not? It's supposed to be your story of your character, not the story of the build that beats all. That's another reason why PvP and PvE need to be separate. And, players can suck on their own, even with a perfect class build.
-
Why not? because that would make the "weak race" instantly the "unused race". Which would instantly make a part of the game useless and wasted data. "Not the story of the build that beats all." seems to contradict your previous statement of "The person that plays the weaker could learn to adapt to not being as strong". You have contradicted yourself by saying the game is not about "which is best" but "people who pick the worst need to adapt"
-
Indeed, and I'm saying the latter is the challenge. If no one wants to be challenged, then my suggestion will disappear soon enough.
-
but this "challenge" is incredibly stupid and makes the game all about "picking the parts of the game that don't suck" Why make useless aspects to the game? if you want a challenge pick weapons that dont suit your play style and develop new play styles based off of weapons you wouldn't ordinarily use. Or use the Class you wouldnt normally use, and "adapt" to a play style that you wouldnt normally use. sounds a lot smarter than making useless parts of the game...
-
I'm suggesting putting a use to that part of the game. If it's merely skin and voice, it's going to be a IDGAF part of the game. There better be many voice actors putting their talents to the game, or else the regret will be choosing a race that sounds terrible and being forced to hear how terrible you sound while still playing at your best.
