I'm gonna say no, people in MMOs and RPGs almost always develop some kind of meta where the deal usually is "get this particular item from this particular boss, and your character will become super powerful by level 10" or something like that.
besides, I like the idea of choosing something just based off a gut feeling in an RPG.

I don't see how that relates to race, considering weapons and items would be drops and even then it looks like most of the items/armor are universal in nature (Warlock has a Titan Band item in gameplay). You mention gut feeling, well this is the same thing, the only difference is your race happens to give you a challenge to the game while playing what your gut tells you to play. Also, I want to see just a minor difference, and 1 point hardly counts as OP, unless the value of 1 is actually a larger number in disguise.

The meta he mentions applies to race and class as well. By the end game there will be groups that won't pick you as there tank unless you're a Titan Exo because of the damage reduction or you won't get picked as a warlock dps unless you're an awoken for the extra damage. There is no such thing as a minor stat boost. It's all or nothing because even a 1% increase in dmg or dmg reduction is 1% more than anyone else can have. This will only be made worse if there are best in slot items. For example a Titan chest item with +10 damage reduction with all other items not going above +9. By the end game you wouldn't be taken seriously as a tank if you weren't an Exo Titan with that armor for a total +11 damage reduction. Bungie wants this to be a fun game where your build your character how you want and your player skill does the rest... It shouldn't be a race to level the same 4 or 5 cookie cutter race/class/item builds.

Okay, i see your point. I just have a bad feeling those "cookie cutter" classes will still be there, it's just going to wear a different skin.
