I think the races being on an even footing helps with a feeling of togetherness important in a co-op experience. I'm quite happy to make a race choice based on aesthetics rather than wondering what perk is gonna serve me most down the line; I'll no longer have this niggling thought in the back of my mind asking if I've done the right thing. With the differences already between classes, perhaps Bungie think having the races on an even keel will give players a higher sense of unity, like "we are Guardians". And having race specific abilities might break that immersion? I agree that it's not something you see too often though. But I'm sure they have their reasons.

  • It most definitely simplifies the character creation process, and the only regret at that point is whether you want to hear a specific voice and face/body-type in cut-scenes. Again, it's genius and new, but when the focus is about our character, as the Staff at Bungie has been pointing out, then race is a very important part of an individuals story, and should be rewarded with a player's creativity. It doesn't have to be a story based on adversity or oppression, but things as simple as where were you born/reborn/made go a little ways. I might be contradicting myself in a later response :)
