D1 exotic drop rates were insane compared to now, I remember people taking a year or two to get certain exotics and even some legendries to drop. Most armour took quite a while to drop after release. Suros Regime was rare (and op) on release. Icebreaker was rare on release. The infamous Gjally was rare, unless you visited Xur week 2 and payed for an unknown rocket launcher that later became godly and a must for any raid team. Fatebringer, Black Hammer, the solar hand cannon from Skolas (can't remember the name) all very rare drops, something like a 5% drop rate which was nuts for legendries! This is just a few rare weapons from D1 that were truly hard to get, I'm not saying all weapons should be harder or easier to acquire, but currently gear is much easier to acquire now than it was in D1. The algorithm is programmed to drip feed gear to you, if you play the lost sector for 4 hours straight, it won't give you a lot. If you run the lost sector a few times then go play something else and come back your odds go up. Mixing up your gameplay keeps you from burning out as easily and improves your rewards. Trust me, I've been grinding this gear since 2014.

  • Last part isn't true .... Its rng.... Its not manipulated in any ways If it take you 4 hour its either because each run takes you 30 minute or you fails 80% of them Longest streak with nothing was 12 personally And the longest confirmed I ever heard of was 16

  • Disagree. I played a TON of destiny one, and a reasonable amount of D2, although it seems to have gotten better, it’s still based on how much time you spend in the game. The more time you spend, the less attractive the gear you get is. Example, I took roughly 3-4 years off this game. The minute I come back and start running semi consistently I’m getting catalysts and exotics thrown at me left and right. Granted a LOT of the exotics were duplicates of what they were giving me but there is truth in “the more you play the less you get”

  • You got "more" because you had a backlog of 3 year to get....your rng wasn't better ,there was just more to get There is absolutely no truth in the take a break to get better odds ....its anecdotal evidence at best .... But not concrete enough to prove anything Its RNG....it's random ....that's it

  • Eh. After breaks from both games even for a few weeks, I feel like you get better stuff. They have to entice you to play more. It’s been proven the development team researched addiction to the seemingly random. You can believe what you want. You should try a break though if there’s something you’re missing. Even IF that item doesn’t pop, I guarantee you’ll get duplicate exotics if what you’re already holding.

  • You are literally contradicting yourself here ..... Again its RNG....not manipulated in any way I feel better because you have false memory and whenever you quit for a time to return and get something its feel better ....you are getting tricked by your own brain

  • There’s no contradiction about it, there’s a few factors that *may* apply to the contrary but I’ve seen it time and time again. The “breaks” period of time are not in hours they’re in weeks. Some of the factors that may speak to your point is accounts that just have RNG hell. Which is very real. Those people that never seem to get anything. After taking a break of 3 years yeah I had a backlog, but I also got WAY more stuff in a very short period of time. Catalysts after just about every strike, exotics randomly dropping off trash mobs. Yeah RNG is real and the system the game works off of, but you and I both know the reward system of this game is designed for addiction and at its core every single activity is trying to keep players in game as long as possible. If you agree with that, you also have to agree that there’s an intersection at which addictive gameplay and reduced RNG meet. There’s no two way about it.

  • again its anecdotal evidence .... Its your brain tricking you with false memory And its the fact you are more likely to remember something random like that than playing and getting them at the same rates as other stuff If it was true the less hardcore player would have more than the more hard-core ....which is simply not true I see raid/dungeon exotics drop for both side ....because once again its rng This theory of manipulated RNG isn't new....and if been right would have been proved a long time ago ....because rng manipulation from them would be a big scandal

  • The only reason it’s “anecdotal” is because bungie isn’t straight up going to say that it’s true. Because they can’t. The circle of friends I play with are huge and I’m speaking to exotics strictly. There is no false memory as the streak of not playing was recent. I’m still getting catalysts dropped to me and more exotic engrams than any other time I’ve played. We can agree to disagree and everyone’s formula isn’t the same. What’s not “anecdotal” is the FACT that bungie had discussions with addiction psych’s and others in the field and design of those conversations is intrinsic in the code of this game. The topic was on Reddit and posted to this forum.

  • You get more now because the drops are better than 3 year before 😂
