As you stated, energy weapons are better at dealing with shields, even if elements don't match. The difference is how less damage each weapon does to a shield and then to an enemy. Kinetic does not do much to a shield, it takes quite a few shots to remove it, but Energy still has decent effect on an unshielded enemy. So, as far as i understand, Kinetic guns are actually a bit inferior to Energy ones. (I might be personally biased, since my preference is Energy primary + Kinetic special.)

So, is an energy weapon a primary weapon or a secondary weapon?

Edited by mrgudveseli: 5/13/2022 6:50:03 AMFirst of all, primary/secondary weapon is a Warframe thing, slots here are called differently. There are three slots, kinetic, energy and power. A kinetic weapon deals clean damage, kinetic weapons can't roll Dragonfly perk that makes an elemental explosion for example, although, with WQ, we've got stasis (cold) element that goes into kinetic slot. An energy weapon always has some element other than stasis on it, like solar, arc or void. Power weapons always deal energy damage, or stasis, but never kinetic. Now, another clasification is by ammo type: primary (one white bullet), special (2 green bullets), and heavy (3 purple bullets). Kinetic weapons can use either primary or special ammo but never power ammo, same goes for energy weapons. Power weapons always use heavy ammo. This makes it possible to have two primaries in your loadout at once, or two specials, but it's always one kinetic weapon, one energy weapon and one power weapon.

I thought primary secondary was used in D1? That's why I'm comparing or asking are they comparable.

Edited by mrgudveseli: 5/15/2022 5:06:24 AMIdk how it used to be in D1, but in D2, at launch special weapons were used in today's power slot, along with two primaries at once. I think things were changed with the release of Forsaken, and i started playing some time later. Edit: Red War campaign full playthrough, quite long, but old. Old enough to show shotguns and snipers being used in power slot, and primaries in kinetic and energy slots.
