One of the modes I’ve always loved the most as it pushes you to be the best of both pve and pvp is gambit.
Now Gambit is in a really sorry state. Every new change loses a part of the player base really showing that bungie is missing the mark on what players care about the most. From when this was conceived, this was always designed to be a fun but competitive mode that mixes the fun of pve and pvp. To get the ball rolling on the discussion and serve as a means to reach bungie rather than to simply vent, I’m going to break down things I’ve noticed as a longtime gambit nerd and fan.
What doesn’t work:
Invaders not being able to see who has the most notes.
New envoy system, having them spawn really far away across the entire map.
The increased invasions happening during damage phase.
What works:
The ammo boxes are a nice touch that really brings the team together.
The boss immunity works well during dps, but as a separate design from how the envoys currently work.
The decreased invasions during the mote collecting phase seems to be a better balance.
Overall:
Gambit is constantly evolving, and that is killing the whole mode and player base for this playlist. The lack of consistency compared the the changes made in pvp and strike op playlists makes gambit a frequently confusing or aggravating experience. In pvp the Meta of hand cannon usage largely is always there and is practical to use after each update, while in gambit every 2-3 months players need to build a completely unique new build from weapon mods to which supers to use based on the seasonal artifact. In gambit you can’t always just use whatever you want because at the same time you’re competing to win against another team so you need to be at least as good as they are. Gambit needs some love and needs a new direction to bring it back to its roots and move away from these “balancing” updates. Trying to make everything as fair as possible just leads to every single match being as sweaty and intense as it can possibly be, and nobody wants to the constant difficulty level of trials of Osiris in mode that was meant to be fun and chaotic.

It makes being able to kill more than one person a more valuable skill to have. The envoys spawning away from the primeval like they used to is good too because it requires people to pay more attention. The invasions during primeval is one of those things that can always be looked at but it doesn't really seem like its the fact that there's more of them as much as its the fact that there's damage phases now, which overall is a good thing. It makes it so the team that has the most powerful loadouts don't necessarily get an automatic win in 5 seconds. Before, even though the way it was was fine, spawning the primeval could end up becoming all but completely pointless. In some matches the win could just have been given to the team that spawned it first. I'm not sure what you mean by "difficulty level" in Gambit. It would be one thing if you weren't playing against other people but how exactly do they decrease the difficulty level without making it a mode that's all about taking turns winning or premades playing solos like some of the other PvP modes in the game?
