https://www.bungie.net/en/forums/post/249545832?showBanned=1&path=1 Actually, they used to be separate based on the tag system. Then the website was condensed and fanfiction was allowed to continue in lore. However, since you missed the point:
Friendly reminder that a while ago people were posting about how fanfiction writers were not supposed to be here. It isn't lore. The compromise was for the most part honored that fanfiction writers would use the tag #fanfiction to show it isn't lore. Now the entire front page doesn't have a single use of it. Friendly reminder that people leave when lore gets overrun with people not following stuff like that and eventually down the road? When a group loses enough people to other tags? Bungie replaces that tag on the All Topics tab.
This was an established precedent so we wouldn't be pushed into the backend of the forums. And no. Fanfiction is not a discussion of current lore. Lore is established by bungie and bungie alone. No current or past fanfiction is in-game or otherwise lore. Published material, in-game dialogue, grimoire, etc. is lore.

False :)

Fan fiction tends to just be garbage head canons and complete bastardizations of the actual lore in the game. Sharing a tag doesn’t make it lore.

Edited by PhNx Hellfire: 12/30/2021 7:26:55 AMChime in if you want, but the end result of this was already explained. Fanfiction is not going to be moved, but the lore is for discussion. Not creativity outright. So let's follow the precedence because, as many many many people have seen before? People leave because they see too many people simply wanting clickbait and attention rather than being an adult about this. Putting it simply: lore, by definition, is the collective knowledge on a subject. Folklore, stories, tales etc are a part of that, but lore first and foremost is about the publication work, the authors of it, what was good/bad/etc and looking beyond that for discussion sake.

I don’t need your permission to speak. You can go ahead and continue having your issues but Bungie already gave an answer to this. You are parading around a lie.
I don’t need your permission to speak.
Not the implication and not what was being told to you.
You can go ahead and continue having your issues but Bungie already gave an answer to this.
You're missing the point. We established this a while ago and simply because you didn't agree you want to argue about it now. No. Lore was originally a bastion for discussion. Not fanfiction. Then it was merged against the wishes of those who were here first to discuss D1 things like the books of sorrow or the vex weapons, or the vault of glass characters among many many many other topics both D1 and D2 in nature. We will follow the example because this will go nowhere if Bungie has to mandate it.
You are parading around a lie.
There is no lie about this. I've seen the discussions turn ugly and I've seen mostly childish arguments on both sides with the compromise simply being to label the tags correctly in the end. I still don't see why that is hard for either side to do and frankly? Will make the subforum a little more organized and easier to find discussions or questions. Also, where do you think I am lying about anything?

You can repost the main post all you want and deny it. Doesnt change the fact that lore and fanfics are the same exact thing and belong in the same place.

Edited by PhNx Hellfire: 12/30/2021 4:27:28 AM
lore and fanfics are the same exact thing and belong in the same place.
Lore- Established by bungie and various works. Examples: Book of Sorrow, bungie.net online comics, Grimoire anthology editions and cook book. Fanfiction- Fan + fiction. Esablished by players or writers or both. Examples: Any user-generated, non-bungie, post anywhere on the internet with intention to be read like a novel or other printed works. There is your clarification on the differences. The biggest? Bungie works lore is typically meant for discussion with references to findings and explanations. The fanfiction is for pleasure reading and not to be taken as lore.

You can keep making up fake definition all you want. Lore and fanfiction are STILL the same exact thing
-
Edited by PhNx Hellfire: 1/1/2022 8:48:45 AMNo. They are two separate things. When you want to learn about what the differences are and stop being a child about this is when you will understand it. I can't force you to get there. You need to want to know these things before you're going to understand it.
-
Youre the only one not understanding it. They are both the same. Thats not up for debate.
-
They are both the same. Thats not up for debate.
Not even close. Bungie has stated different timelines and places exist to justify different stories (fan fiction) but the story, campaign, and published works is the official one they are making. You need to learn about these things before you want to say what is and what isn’t lore.
-
Youre the only one who needs to learn that they are ALL lore xD
