Just Curious... What would you rather have?

Targeted Loot Farms + Sunsetting

Intense RNG + No Sunsetting

Intense RNG + Sunsetting (Why?)

Targeted Farms + Sunsetting

Sunsetting still seems to be a stupid hot topic, even when Bungie isn't addressing it. I know everyone in my friend group hates it, but I can also see the argument for it (Especially with guns like The Messenger going forward), but I want to see how the community feels about it. Keep it civil, folks. I just want data and reasons, so I can get an objective view of it all. Edit: Oops, I goofed up the final option. I meant to put "Targeted Farms + No Sunsetting". Sorry about that.

  • Give me a hard grind with variable loot. Not 5 guns with 4 random perk slots. Sunsetting isn't needed.

  • Actually the question is simpler than that: Do you want to play Destiny as a loot game....or not?? If you want to play this game AS a loot game, then Sunseting is MANDATORY. Because without it the game eventually self-destructs. The only way Bungie got away WITHOUT IT, is because Bungie kept abandoning the game after 3 years for a sequel. So they could just sort of ignore the problems to an extent. Until they decided NOT to abandon this game after three years. Then they had to fix it. The people who are complaining about Sunsetting are largely PVP players (who only see PVE as a means to an end to gear up for PVP, and don't really care about Destiny AS a loot game.) ....and **collectors**.. People who fall in love with the gear, and basically play the game with a mindset that is not compatible with playing it as a loot game. Lastly, You need a mixture of target farms and random drops. YOu need the mix becasue they appeal to different kinds of players, with different kinds of "wiring" in their brains. Random drops appeal to the emotional player. The one that likes to ride the highs and lows of excitment. Directed grind become boring and tedious to this player. Directed grind on the other hand appeal to the methodical grinder. The player who likes to have a goal and work towards it. This is also "rewarding"...but the wiring in our brains that it interacts with is different. The methodical and systematic effort to reach a goal this way is satisfying to the grinder....whereas the lack of control that random drops offer eventually becomes a source of frustration to the grinder.

    • Sunsetting would be fine if they actually implemented it correctly. So I'd rather have targeted loot farms and no sunsetting.

        • I'm fine with sunsetting if it has been started when year two of D2 had started. Bungie waited too long to do it and they went and sunsetted way too much of the weapon pool.

I’m going option 3, with a caveat - it doesn’t include armour sunsetting. Reasons: I think it’s important to mix up the loot pool, and keep it as varied as possible through perks, otherwise we end up with a ‘pinnacle’ (see what I did there) that everyone chases in a specific way, and then everyone uses. Those that don’t have it (edit: or like me, aren’t good enough to achieve it) feel the burn, and we end up in a situation where more powerful weapons are needed by the ‘average’ player to compete/feel as powerful in a meaningful way. I think the way it was implemented was a bit brutal though, I was a Black Armoury guardian, and dismantling those weapons after everything I’d put into getting my rolls was pretty rough (and don’t even get my started on the masterworked armour sets I ended up chucking in the bin 🤦‍♂️) I know it’s a tough compare, but look at the loot randomisation in a franchise like Borderlands. Even the ‘top tier’ weapons and equipment comes with absolutely loads of variations. For me personally, I think it’s important that my guardian plays the way I want, with what I can get. I don’t enjoy the forced meta each season, and how we’re shoehorned into using specific weapons with seasonal mods for higher level activities (I bloody detest scout rifles so anti-barrier this season isn’t great, especially after autos and pulses in the last 2 seasons). If people want to grind that exact and specific roll, then go for it, but I feel that giving us more variations of weapons/perks/exotic armour synergies (maybe even make it even more customisable with barrel & scope options) would make the world more alive with more individual guardians. My view comes from some hardcore hours in the Borderlands franchise, making builds and messing about with weapon & mod combos. I do the same with Destiny, currently, for the first time, running a Warlock with Sunbracers, Monte Carlo & top tree Dawnblade (with a couple of warmind mods) and am loving it. Next season I’ll try something different I’m sure (and if anyone has read to the end of this, and has a suggestion for a fun build, throw it at me and I’ll give it a spin). That’s my 2p.

                • option 2 means that, to get what you want, you will grind far beyond what is enjoyable. If your game about grinding makes grinding unfun, the game has failed. option 3 is made by sadists. It simply isnt worth the time to hunt stuff. option 4 would result in you burning through motivators very quickly. "I dont want to hunt anything. I have a vault full of god rolls from seasons past". Unless the new weapons are straight upgrades (which has its own issues), this isnt sustainable. Sooo... option 1. Sustainable and satisfying.

                  • I’d like a game with actual content and story that I don’t have to grind till my eyes bleed trying to chase an arbitrary number that gets pushed higher every 3 months just to do it all over again.
