Yeah! Let's band against Bungie by playing a Bungie game instead of a Bungie game! That'll really show them! Fight the power!

  • There is truth to this. Externally Bungie would tout their login numbers bc D1 & D2 logins are counted together. But internally, I think it would kill them to see D1 population greater than their favorite child of D2.

Yes we would still be playing a Bungie game, but one that is far superior. The point is, besides us having more fun, that it shows them what the masses actually think of D2. The new style of play is quite simply dull and hasn’t got the faintest bit of fun and excitement in it... anywhere. Even if the active players are counted together as a general population, they would still see that there’s hardly anyone on D2’s servers and the D1 servers are flat out again haha. Could you imagine their reaction!? 🤣 pmsl just thinking of their faces on the inevitable podcast!

  • I agree with you, on all things. How long do you think D1 would stay lights on if it ever did surpass D2 numbers? Not long. lol. I REALLY would like to see those population counts publicly separated though. Trust me, Bungie knows them. Do i think D1 numbers are equal or greater? No, but I think D1 numbers are still respectable. Especially for a retired game.

Oh definitely, when I’ve been on there its still VERY populated! Even in patrol theres plenty of people about. I don’t know if they would be able to shut down the servers, people payed a lot of money for that game and dlc’s. They’d get slaughtered in the media if they did that! You know, after the fits of laughter had ended 😆

  • The Activision/Bungie contract stated that all previous games have to stay up 3 yrs after contract ends. But that contract has to be amended. The scheduled delivery dates for the games are WAY off.

  • Hmm well does that mean 3 years after Rise of Iron or vanilla? I don’t know but I’m sure there’d be plenty of time to make our point

  • Where do you get the idea the login numbers are counted together?

Destinytracker's numbers state it from their "D1 home page". It's between clans and support at the top. Go to the normal home page landing and it states: 7.6M Total Tracked Players. Go to D1 home page and it states: 7,605,659 Tracked Players Since Aug '15. It's not counting the first 12 months of D1. Edit: Changed 18 to 12 months.

Absolutely, those are the precise numbers BUT it says "Total tracked since Aug '15". Pretty sure D2 happened Sep '17.

  • There was, I was in it. I think it was in July? Right after I came back from guardiancon.

  • And the pc one was in August. Even if pc wasn't tracked, there doesn't need to be data to track to start tracking. The sight could have been set up to start tracking and not have it's first data point until launch. The internet has an archive, you should see if you can track down an archived page between August 15th and September whenever the game was released.

  • Tracker started tracking Aug 2015. That's what the '15 means, NOT Aug 15.

Then what happened to all the accounts? You think only 7 million people have made accounts in 2 years?

  • Aug 2015 to now is only 2 yrs and a little over 3 months. Plus, that population is defined as "unique login" not accounts created. A unique login is when you play a PvE event and/or playing a PvP event. Each is counted as one individually. Trying to nail down an exact population on platform or D1 vs D2 is a rabbit hole you can go down, I've tried once, not going to again. lol You're beginning to ask questions I was NEVER able to answer. Bungie is CIA secretive with its data sets. If you wind up finding anything definitive, with a reference link, please let me know. The only thing I know is the info on DTR, Guardian.gg, and a few other 3rd party websites. Check Guardian.gg and the numbers will be different plus they don't log PvE at all. Why different? Same API, I can only guess, but no fact based answer. Srsly, that's a path I am not walking down again. lol. Good Luck!
