It's really sad, but I'm 90% sure Coldheart will be useless almost immediately after launch, if not at launch, and there will be a nonstop wave of complaints against it.
If it releases and it's OP, people will complain that it's an unfair advantage (i.e. the misinformed whiners who'll shout "pay to win" as soon as someone kills them with it), and then it'll get nerfed.
If it's underpowered then people will complain that it's useless and Bungie cheated them by "lying" about the preorder bonus (even though that doesn't make any sense at all), and no one will ever use it.
I'm actually excited to use it, btw. I love the idea of having an energy beam weapon like in Halo.
1 ReplyThis isn't a black and white scenario. It can be balanced, you know.

Literally not pre ordering the game is now an excuse. It costs five dollars to pre order the standard 60 dollars. You are not paying anymore than anyone else
-
It would be better for it to be underpowered than overpowered. At least when it comes to a pre order bonus.

Edited by Swiftlock: 8/21/2017 9:33:54 AMIt could've been something awesome if Bungie actually split the metas. But yeah, no. This thing is going to be mediocre or nerfed into mediocrity so as not to offend the PvP players.

I bet it's gonna be just like Vex Mythoclast (after initial nerf). Unique and fun to use, but only good for clearing trash mobs.

5 RepliesHow about if it's just good? Nicely in the middle?? How about that champ?

I hope we don't get it straight away. Just give us a quest that doesn't start until after the campaign and I will be fine.

5 RepliesWhat if it's, you know, balanced?

Just the idea of having something in my energy slot that isn't a traditional primary seems great.

9 Replieswell yeah 'cos they stoled the gun from Bowie/Mercury...

(and, apologies, was not initially making light of your post I was just amusing myself as is generally the case. altho thinking about it now, I almost wonder if someone somewhere at bungo is a Queen fan as well, since 'Under Pressure' is not a bad sort of meta-reference to the pressurized-coolant-system on the gun lol...)

I'll use it anyway. Exponential dmg = boss destroyer.

in a more on-topic note: yeah, I d'nno? (helpful, I know) I like the idea of the Coldheart. as others have mentioned in other threads, it seems like sort of a Sleeper Simulant analogue-not-quite? (and I loves me some Sleeper!). I love the thinking that it burns up its coolant as both fuel and ammunition. this is like, borderlands-level-of-gun-design. I agree with you completely about OP-complainers and bungie-willing-nerfing, ugh. I can't see it being too-useful in pvp (except there are always those who will make it so. I mean, I am ridiculously proud of the (very few) kills-without-dying I got with Sleeper in crucible/IB. mainly because it was hilarious and because I am a jerk.) in pve it could be pretty useful, but I am hoping it will take some skill and not just be an easy/lazy tool like my beloved-Supercell?
