This isn't CoD. This is Destiny. Using space magic is what defines Destiny and what sets it apart from other games. Putting PvE and PvP together does not work. You cannot reconcile the two - they have completely different needs and skill requirements. Placating to one hurts the other when they are tied to the same sandbox. You'd think after 3 years of repeated failure to balance the two together that you'd have learned this lesson by now....
The Bungie Update mentioned ability "tweaks", but it ALSO mentioned the fact that abilities like our grenades and melees should be "rare". This is clearly a PvP decision due to the excessive whining about grenade and melee deaths. This decision is made at the expense of PvE, which is the actual game. Destiny isn't about guns - it's about Nova Bombs, Golden Guns, Tripmines, Axion Bolts, and Fists that frequently induce Havoc.

14 RepliesPosted in another thread, but makes the point I've been trying to make all along: The market is full of balanced competitive shooters. What made Destiny so magical was that it was the fact that it brought the RPG power fantasy into a satisfying first person experience. You can say all you want that destiny is "RPG-like" and not an RPG, but as long as the gameplay loop revolves around character creation, character progression and loot, power fantasy is absolutely necessary to sustaining the gameplay loop. I really don't understand why everyone wants destiny to be Overwatch, battlefield or CoD, when they can just play those games. In the PvE world, destiny is one of a kind, and people who want it to be a clone of all these games that already exist are stripping that one of a kind experience away from us.

When D1 came out the abilities were non-essential in PvE. As soon as I could, I ran Sunsinger with revive. Over time, abilities became essential, and for the last 2 years I mostly ran Stormcaller. I liked the gameplay in the last 2 years. Let's keep the super in supers for D2.

4 RepliesDestiny really is lacking if this "space magic" is what makes it so special, I mean, there's hundreds of games that use magic too. It's also funny that destiny isn't like CoD yet it is, I mean, CoDs publisher own the game lol. The first one had quick kill times, over relied on ohk capabilities, abilities, weapon skins and perks, has an unbalanced pvp like CoD, ect ect. Fact IS there is no such thing as a unique first person shooter these days. How many use abilities? Destiny, halo, overwatch, battle born, I could go on and on. How many focus on guns? Damn near everyone of them. How many loot shooters are there? Destiny, borderlands, the division, anthem, etc etc.

I agree with PvE, as it's more ability based, so what's the point of abilities if you barely use them. But honestly, I like the change in PvP as it's mostly based on who has better aim as the person getting more headshots in a 1 on 1 will win that encounter, also making it focus more on a team effort rather than 1 person carrying the team when it comes to team fights. The slower recharge rate also makes you think about using your abilities tactically instead of, lets say, panic slamming 1 player as they managed to outplay you in a gun fight. The only downside to the rate for PvP was the super charge rate as it lead to everyone using them right at the end or not getting them at all, that should be adjusted so everyone gets at least 2/3 supers per game. Tl;Dr: Slow recharge rate in PvE is pure BS. But it's not too bad in PvP, just increase recharge rate for supers

Especially when they gave the most 'magical' of their characters guns lol. That should give a pretty clear indication of how shortsighted that thought is. Anyway more specifically guns are at its core, and our abilities revolve around that. Which is to say they want us using a healthy amount of every aspect of our kit. So depending on how you group things up, just going guns and magic, it's 50/50. Break up the magic part, and it is broken into 20% each. You get the idea, there's not likely to ever be anything that makes you a full on ability user. That is to say completely or even majorly, that is not what the game is or was ever going to be. Also the level of gymnastics one has to do to honestly think this game is turning into COD is hilarious.

The simple fact we have space magic means that Destiny will never be CoD.

6 RepliesPvE is a cakewalk.. anyone who has trouble in PvE, needs to go play minecraft

Bump! And a good ole fashioned....WTF Bungie!

6 RepliesEdited by Illuvatar: 8/11/2017 4:35:33 PMPvE should enhance your pvp ability... IE gear... Faster cooldown, +health, regen, gun mod armor... Why they haven't figured this out is beyond me.... Why you get literally the same gear in crucible as a RAID is -blam!-ing beyond me.

7 RepliesYou guys can easily just continue to play D1. Nothing is stopping you until the servers are taken down. By the way, Destiny is not solely about your abilities. It is about the guns and gear you collect, too. ;)

1 ReplyI read the bold bits as if you were yelling. Also I read it in Zoidberg's voice. I'm not sure if what you made was a good point or not.
-
I was mildly concerned when I read that. I'm still all for giving them leash to define what Destiny 2 is. As with any sequel, it should be informed by the previous but not too beholden to it. It's a fine line... Remember this, though: it's better to start with the dial set Low. It's much easier to crank it up to 10 as opposed to dialing it back down. This way, if the "rare" meta isn't popular, then everyone is in agreement of what direction to move in.
-
Edited by DarkNi9htmare14: 8/11/2017 4:38:34 PMWell it is. I'm happy with the direction they're taking. It had Space Magic in it still, just a little less for more gunfighting, something almost everyone wanted. So are gunfights wanted or not wanted, because in my opinion, people bash Bungie no matter what they do.
-
Yes. I don't want the uniqueness of this game being taken away or toned down...
-
How is it not about guns? It's a looter shooter with MMORPG structure and mechanics.
-
Exactly. People can't stand being killed by something that seems op when they have said op ability also. Being over the top awesome was the best about destiny. What we didn't like was the cheating and lag. All they had to do was get rid of those 2 things and this game would have been amazing. Instead they dumbed the game down and are giving us less even though we all have current gen consoles now. Gg bungie.

5 RepliesI can't wait to dual with primaries and measure my abilies based on effectiveness. 'Should i use my grenade now or will it be more effective later' Rather than I'll just throw 2 nades, ill have another in a few seconds anyway
-
Edited by MikeRoEconomist: 8/11/2017 4:09:28 PMI agree - to an extent. The existing setup is 100% reliant on abilities and quick ttk to OHK weapons (see sunsinger sticky spam, shoulder charge titans, and wombo-combo hunters). It shouldn't be as slow as it was in the beta, but there do need to be some checks on ability spam.
