They lost invisibility, and they class ability is reload they're weapon unless you want melee, but that is useless especially in pvp. Sure golden gun was buffed, but in any raid whatsoever I will upset if we have one hunter, because the class lacks pve viability. Disagree with me or not, I just hope bungie will see that it's current class ability sucks. Maybe if it reloaded everyone's guns within a vicinity upon activation, it might be a viable class, or make bottomless clip, actually infinite ammo would be better for pve( since rockets are gone) for a short if you stay within the vicinity of the person or activation spot for a short time. I just want another viable class for pve otherwise I'll just stick to warlock and titan mainly. I mained hunter since the d1 alpha, but I can't see myself able to convince randoms that I will be more useful than another person of a different class, because I can't convince myself unless said person sucks. That's just my opinion, say what you will. Just leave your opinion below I'm curious if others agree. I realize this is a beta but with only about a month and half till release the can't change much. Also most beta's these days are server strength. I'm hoping for an update though.
Edit 1 : forgot to add a whole instant fireteam vanish ability(invis) (within a vicinity) class ability as a substitute class ability, just comment ivis below or something, can't figure out how to edit it.
Edit 2: Bungie did bot even acknowledge the hunter's flaws in their update on 7/20, even though it is probably the second biggest problem, the biggest one being slow supers in pve, they didn't even acknowledge that either, just ammo specifically. They said this was an old build, but I don't think that counts for a whole ability.

went back to play destiny to 1v1 some friends and have fun... miss being able to roll every second and be the squirrel king. They should have be able to move more fluently and reward out playing people.
-
Blink would be nice on arcstrider. (I know because of lore, they don‘t have it) a hunter should be fast, slippery and sneaky. They should put invincibility frames when you dodge and something that can benefit your team. Arcstrider super is mediocre. You can do good if you use it clever but its worser than striker and all other roaming super. The attack swings are tooooo slow and you move slow. You cam just run away with a warlock and titan. The striker titan in fist of havoc mode is much faster and you can catch guardians with the kick hit but the hunter can‘t. Golden gun is good. Nightstalker tether should be able to kill someone on direct impact(not supers) and when you hit someone midway in super, it should instantly supress them and not take forever to activate. The hunter should be the fastest class but a titan is faster with his jetpack and a warlock is extremely faster with blink. Like crazy fast. Even tho the hunter wont get blink because of lore, so why did the bladedancer have blink. Its not like hunters somehow forgot to how to use blink. My opinion on the hunter

1 ReplyEdited by XCommandoCorgiX: 10/13/2017 4:58:55 AMGunslinger okay but for god Sakes if I shoot someone who activated there super i should kill them. Nightstalker is the same like destiny one they need something newer. The arcstriders looks cool buts shirt the only way it's good is if your in close range parts of the map if not your getting shot. Also why the hell does the Warlock have blink.
-
One of the main reasons that I am not getting D2. I main a hunter, although I have all 3 maxed and completed on D1... after playing the beta I was just completely unsatisfied at how hard Hunters got screwed over. I'll just wait a year until they fix this garbage.

It's frustrating, to see hunters with golden gun and arcstridder explanation to follow, I have to mention that I will play both subclasses, as they are what is available to me, but (explanation) I would rather see More creativeness from the devs, halo was an ever changing game, that would build upon new ideas and new gear...including some old, but the old was revamped in grasping way, With destiny this is round 2 and already I see 2 familiar subclasses that I barely played in the first place. While arc strider is spectacular looking, and golden gun is quite punishing and deadly in the right hands, they are both old news, and not as enjoyable OR as interactive as night stalker was for myself and all other hunters out there, If I was to make changes yet still had to keep both subclasses it would be this... 1-make gunslinger dual wielding 2-make arcstrider cool down less so simplemovment wouldn't take up so much energy, Or 2.1-change arcstridder alltogether with gameplay that doesn't feel so lucid but more fluid, I truly feel that pve arcstridder is going to be a massive joke, 20+ enemy's okay sure that makes sense, but hqck slashing a tougher enemy with that super is laughable, it just doesn't feel like gameplay as aposed to a cheap parlour trick.!! Looks cool but doesn't actually matter at all.. Now if the hunter had subclasses as substantial as nightstalker then we would have some interesting gameplay, Jumping high in the air to wait a split second before you begin decent, then pop off your bow and poke that bad guy boss in his face or in a heard of enemy's is fulfilling and intregiuing as far as gameplay goes, it made sense, it felt perfect as it was exacuted, and it looked brilliant and dazzling, oh and if you have gotten this far through reading my rant, Then you will be glad to know I think it was a team player subclass, making orbs and aiding in team damage was a huge factor for all us hunters out there, Give us more nightstalker like subclasses , And the game will go back to normal rather than backwards.

Edited by juyaku: 8/3/2017 12:57:49 PMHunter overall is a huge disappointment. The massive issue is the class ability and overall mobility of the Hunter class. One change the class ability to two new versions of vanish in smoke. Option 1 - Shadow Thief - smoke triggers health regeneration, you and your near by allies gain invisibility that last 7 seconds. ( provided you don't shoot , etc. ) Option 2 - Lethal Spectre - smoke triggers invisibility for you and your near by allies. Invisibility is maintained regardless of activity for 5 seconds ( basically you can run around shoot do whatever for 5 seconds and remain invisible). The mobility issue in my opinion is pretty noticeable, you should never feel slow or like your moving through molasses as a Hunter. The dodge roll ability should be an intrinsic perk for at least one of the Hunter subclasses, if Warlocks get a free twilight garrison perk for in the air, Hunters should get one on the ground with the same relative cool down, also you shouldn't light up like a Christmas tree when you use it . While we're at it mite as well give a mobility perk to the titans too, idk they can double tap the same button as the Hunter dodge roll or Warlock dodge and have it rocket them straight up a short distance or something regardless weather or not they are on the ground or in the air call it " Tactical Lift " or something. The Gun slingers throwing knife in pvp should be a 1 hit kill for a head shot, period, just not negotiable. If you have a knife stuck in your head and it blows up, your dead. Then there is the six shooter perk, for as fast as that bar goes, every single one of the shots should be pure unadulterated devastation. When you shoot something you shouldn't have to wonder if your going to have to shoot it again. If you take that kinda time off of golden gun then every round you unleash should be op. And if not.. I'm not sure what the relevance of the perk is at all, you would figure this is the high risk/ high reward perk and it's counterpart on the other tree would be the safe regular powered version. As its stands golden gun with six shooter is all high risk for mediocre reward at best and that is when engaging the lowest tier enemies. On another note I hope if we get third subclasses again that blink is an option for that Hunter subclass, kinda of annoying how it's only Voidwalkers now. I play all classes and subclasses but usually main Hunter particularly nightstalker, (though I did really enjoy my voidwalker Warlock as well) Hunters clearly have been cut at the knees, I realize this was a beta but these are massive issues with this classes design/redesign. If they don't change something it's going to drastically impact the destiny 2 experience in a negative way for people that enjoy maining Hunter, so much so that they my not opt to buy any dlc or destiny 3 if we ever get that far. Anyway rant over.
-
I totally agree man, as a hunter main I'm disappointed, and yeah Invisibility, like a vanish smoke but that lasts longer could be a great class ability for hunters, and shadestep should free, like wtf warlocks got -blam!-in twilight garrison. And im not hatin on other classes i just think we deserve better

1 ReplyThe combo of titan shield with the warlock ability will force all hunters out of high end pve unless bungee changes something.
-
Did this discussion die?
-
8 RepliesSerious question: have you gotten on arc strider, jumped into a large group of red bar enemies like the wardogs, or a large group of goblins, and just started punch-dodging until everything was dead? Because that was easily the most fun thing I did in the beta. It was fantastic. If they give hunters a different ability and make gambler's dodge a part of the melee heavy tree for Arcstrider, that'd be just fine by me, but I hope they leave it in in some capacity because it's just too ridiculously fun.
-
7 RepliesI agree, compared to Titan and Warlock the Hunter class ability is lacking. I love the dodge roll ability, but I think it should be implemented as a regular ability we can spec into, and have a totally different class ability that benefits the hunter and the team for both PVE, and PVP. If they do choose to keep the dodge roll as the class ability then it should either heal or buff all allies around the hunter, that's just my opinion. Or maybe even apply an over shield or something idk.

Edited by VallhaIa: 7/24/2017 7:43:49 PMDodge is a pathetic excuse for a class ability. Why does a somersault need a cooldown again?
-
Edited by SkyeByte: 7/24/2017 1:44:08 PMHonestly, right now, Hunter class in D2 Beta feels more like a mediocre version of Overwatch McCree, with the only thing better than McCree is that Hunter can do triple jump. Hunter's new Marksman's Dodge is really the worse McCree's Combat Roll. When first time looking at Overwatch, I kinda laughed at Combat Roll skill, boasted in Overwatch forums that what McCree needed was something like Nightstalker's Shadestep. But now... with D2 Hunter got Marksman's Dodge with 17 sec cool-down, that's kinda got slap on the face from all the McCree Fans out there, LOL.. xD Titan got awesome Barrier for reloading or blocking. Warlock got awesome Rift for healing or buff. And, Hunter's current reload/melee Dodge with 17 seconds cool-down, is definitely nowhere in the league of those skills from the other 2 classes. IMO Hunter just needs a tiny bit tweak in Dodge cool-down, either by (1) give back the original Nightstalker's Shadestep, OR at least (2) reduce the Dodge cool-down to anything below 10 seconds (probably to 8 sec, just like McCree's Combat Roll? LOL;)), OR OR ... probably, the 3rd option is ... (not related to the Dodge skill) a slightly faster health regeneration/recovery by default. I don't give a shit with the perk embedded to the Dodge like those reloading gun or melee, IMO the vanilla Nightstalker's Shadestep is simply more awesome than reloading gun or melee both for PvP or PvE. With the current state of Hunter in D2 Beta, I would strongly switch to Warlock when D2 is released, a class that actually I very rarely used in D1, but now Warlock looks super awesome with Healing Rift that is essentially Soldier76's Biotic Field, and awesome synergy potential in the skill tree, plus a bonus ... the Dawnblade's Daybreak super, a.k.a. "Justice rains from above!".. xD
-
Edited by VallhaIa: 7/22/2017 3:32:18 PMHunters should have something that stays/lingers for a while in one place like a rift or a wall. It would only be fair. (smoke bomb you walk thru to get invisibility?)
-
18 RepliesYeah compared to the other two class abilities Dodge is just stupid. I was hoping for some kind of trap you could place, either for a DoT or a snare. The Dodge just feels weak and selfish. The other two class abilities have great team utility the Hunter? Not at all. I predict Hunters will have a hard time finding a role in the raids.
-
2 RepliesYeah, they def sh!t on the Hunter...which is incredibly irritating. The evade is on par with the Warlock Icarus Dash or the Titan Shoulder Charge. It should be built into the classes in that capacity. It's completely ridiculous to consider it equivalent to a shield or invincibility well. SMH-- very sad.
-
8 RepliesEdited by jesseeckel: 7/19/2017 10:34:30 PMThe Hunter class ability is laughably horrible in comparison to the warlock's and Titans abilities. I feel like if I choose to play as a hunter i'll never get into raid group. The hunter offers almost nothing that assists the team as a whole. A two second roll and auto reload is disappointing to say the least. Honestly it doesn't take that long to reload, probably close to the same amount of time. That and the fact that the Titan can generate a shield, that supports the whole team and reload his weapon 5 or 6 times all while being protected from damage. The warlock can generate a healing rift, help heal all his teammates, reload multiple times and get an overshield. Invisibility should've been the class ability with the two variations being one with faster revive rate or one with increased speed and agility.
-
3 RepliesEdited by x-MISANTHROPIC-x: 7/20/2017 6:07:13 AMHunters have zero raid utility at present. Titans can kick up two different shields for the group. warlocks can open a healing rift or a damage increase rift for the group. Hunters were given, a couple of dodge rolls that either reload their weapon while empty or recharge their melee :/ Raids will be composed of Warlocks and Titans. Just bring back nightstalker....
-
3 RepliesEdited by VallhaIa: 7/22/2017 3:39:53 AMThe perfect combo kind of exists: Titan wall in front of warlock rift. Imagine if hunters could add something to the mix. Like invisibility. Here's my proposal- Hunter class ability: Smoke bomb that lingers ( so if your low on health just walk back in the smoke) Just imagine the combo; a titan pops his shield, a warlock puts down his rift, and a hunter throws a smoke bomb down. = kickass
-
In about 30 seconds I've came up with a much better idea than that reused shadestep. And it's much better for a fireteam as well. Have something similar to the smoke bombs, (without the invisibility). Since it's in both subclasses, use the elements to your advantage. When the little bomb is thrown, it can do one of two things. 1st option) - would be to shield you and your allies near you with the matching subclass element, allowing you and your allies to take reduced damage from matching elements. So with gunslinger, you'll get the fiery aura around you indicating it's active, and if the enemies are shooting solar damage at you, you and your allies receive less damage from it. 2nd option) - would be once it's thrown, you and nearby allies will have the aura around you, but if any enemies (players or AI), melee you or are close enough to touch, they get inflicted with the burn of the matching subclass element. This is just my idea. I've honestly never used shadestep. Never much cared for it. But even if I had, that really long cool down it now has, makes it useless. Plus, I didn't notice any melee recharge. But this was just my idea. Seemed to be far more group supportive than whatever that is they came up with. And even if they did like my idea, there is simply not enough time for them to implement it. :'(

The Class ability for Hunters completely sucks. I'm mainly a Titan, but I'm not going to be biased here. If you were a Titan or Warlock, you'll have an ability that benefit both you and your fireteam. Titans get barricades that protect whoever's behind it, and crouching behind the small one refills your mag. Warlocks can cast a healing rift that heals you and your allies, or can grant you all more bonus damage. Hunters can just dodge. Yeah, it refills your melee energy or reloads your weapon, but there's nothing it can do to actually support you or your fireteam in a fight in either PvE or PvP. If you ask me; I think the Hunter's dodge should be scrapped altogether & replaced with a smoke grenade that gets thrown directly too your feet that blinds nearby enemies. Here are the 2 Variants of my idea: NINJA'S SMOKE: Smoke grenade instantly triggers health regeneration for you and nearby allies, and turns you all invisible for a few seconds. ASSASSIN'S SMOKE: For a few seconds, smoke grenade slows all nearby enemies and temporarally increases damage output for you and nearby allies.

Usually people insinuate hunters with front line assassins. Wouldn't it be easier to play that role if maybe, you went invisible for your class ability, like nightstalker vanish smoke bomb.

10 RepliesRight now things I have an issue with... Arcstrider is weak in PVP with regards to brawling. I hit someone with a punch, and its cushy, and soft. I die fast if I don't dodge, and that whole "melee, dodge, melee" garbage only works if your opponent is a dumb brick. If they jump, or move away from your dodge, you are basically dead on arrival. This was horribly designed, in my opinion. (Everyone's opinion will differ!) In PVE, Arstrider is OK at best, dangerous at worst. Sure I can use my super on trash packs, but it is ultimately ineffective on a boss fight, even with waves of adds. I go out and use it on adds, I die bc I'm frail as an Arcstrider, I get no cushion on my bum from being in super and even moving constantly does not help. The boss just aims at you and punts you or kills you with a stomp, or just guns you down. Gunslinger issues are vastly more ingrained in PVP. The Gunslinger talent that gives you six shots is entirely crap, and its not worth using at all, again in my opinion. I don't really care if that tree isn't supposed to be used for PVP, it has some useful perks for PVP other than that six shooter perk. But that whole cluster is off-limits now thanks to that perk being entirely gutted and garbage. Six shots in four seconds is bad, bad, bad. You get almost zero time to aim, and shoot, and more importantly chase down people. I hate it with a burning passion. What's worse is I can't compare it to the other cluster of perks at the bottom at all. And if that one was supposed to be used in PVP, I'd love to try it. In PVP the super is so-so and in PVE I imagine its only somewhat decent. The next issue is the Gunslinger melee, the knife throw. In PVP it takes FINESSE to land a knife on someone's head and yet it does not do insane damage, it just takes off their pretty shield. As a result I'm left without anything but a dodge to save me, just like the Arcstrider, but if that's on its MASSIVE cooldown I'm toast. Priming the pump for a knife kill takes more shots. I don't like this one bit as my Gunslinger melee has gone to a finesse requiring, high damage output device to the equivalent of a few rounds from a gun, and possibly costing my life. It needs a huge change, or some sort of rework altogether. The Dodge altogether is entirely worthless with the cooldown on it. It is so, so, slow, and doesn't do much to boost your defensive capabilities or offensive capability at all. And again, see my obvious statement on the melee, dodge, melee crapfest that can occur above. It is deplorable. Compared to a Titan or a Warlock, this class ability is lackluster at best, and costs you your life at worst. It goes long when it could go short, and doesn't absorb damage at all, and its cooldown is insane. I hate it. It is by far the least useful of any class ability. In summary, hunters in Destiny 2 are not the hunters from Destiny 1. I did not expect them to be, but this is bad. I don't have a solid sticky grenade in Gunslinger at all (this was also taken away in D1), and unlike D1 I have no way of outputting high amounts of damage for sacrificing my regeneration or resilience. The dodge ability for Nightstalker at least had 0 cooldown, and I could chain dodge. I can't do this in D2, and it forces me to suffer and die. If I'm an Arcstrider I never get to use my super often, and when I do, the class turns into something from Street Fighter 2 with combos. This is a S-H-O-O-T-E-R and I'm being KILLED out of my super while using my Arc Staff. All the flashy Star Wars Kid combos in the world are not going to save me from being gunned down. I need an overshield, some sort of toughness booster, or ANYTHING to extend my life inside this. I hate dying when I have 50% of my super bar up. Meanwhile in Titan land I see Sentinels/Strikers trucking through void/arc guns like OJ Simpson in his youth, and Dawnblades pulling swords and sprints off like Jackie Chan in the 100M armed parkour hurdles. Seriously, why is it that Dawnblades can fly and I'm stuck on the ground with a staff if I'm supposed to be the king of mobility? Even in that regard, mobility buys us nothing but grief and death. So, give Hunters a bone and quit ignoring the issues for flavor and flash. I don't care about style when my health bar is melting in front of my eyes and the tools I have on hand take me three times more effort to use than any other class in the game. I don't like the way it is, or what happened at the end of D1 for that matter, but I'll take whatever can be done as a concession. As it stands now, I'm going to go Titan if the game goes live, and hunters are still not any kind of good.

Edited by VallhaIa: 7/21/2017 3:24:49 AMDoes anyone think arcstrider is just a dumbed down version of bladedancer. To me, Its basically the same subclass except there's no blink, no invisibility, no blink strike, no vanish, you move slower in the super, and you lose you knife melee. The only upside I see in arcstrider is that you can potentially affect a greater area when you swing (but that's contrary to the whole hunter idea of "skill and precision"). Also the ability to get your dodge after a melee kill is only useful in pve bc it takes at least 3 melees to kill in pvp (duh). Also, i remember in D1 bladedancer actually got me worried and a little scared when I saw one lunging at me with those pointy knives. Not so much a skipping pole dancer.
-
2 RepliesYea dude its retarded whay the hell where they thinking they basically made shadestep the class ability but gave it like a minute cool down meanwhile they gave warlocks the twilight garrison dodge that they can do every 10 secs like wtf was bungie thinking that some lazy design is the class supposed to equate to level of difficulty or something cause if they werent before hunters are trash now...
-
In solo play of the campaign the cycling of the abilities seems like poledancer will be fine but it's super is shit and I can't tell if gg is any good because the six shots seems to cut the super down to doing no damage. Shit a group of four enemies with gg yesterday with all 6 shots and it didn't kill any of them. I found the dodge to be slow and not that great because it seemed not to break enemy tracking when I did it meaning I was being hit while in the slow animation. Also with no invis it seemed extremely week in the support category compared to the Titan I played. Sentinel can get a self shield and both can make a wall that was very helpful during the boss fight during the strike to get revived or dps the boss. Meanwhile the hunters dodge can either reload your gun which isn't that great even for the hunter or you have to be a foot away from an enemy to make your melee recharge. And that range is distance not actually being attacked so the description isn't really correct.
