Once upon a time…..
All the PvP children cried that this gun was made for their mode alone, but they were all of them deceived. The enlightened guardians who were filled with the light knew that in the right hands, it was a monster against the darkness…..if you knew how to work with it. Here’s why TLW was a PvE beast before Bungie “fixed” it for PvP purposes. Also here’s why the reviews saying it wasn’t viable for PvE HAD to have just sucked with it. Here’s what TLW did….once upon a time….
1 - Once upon a time, hip fire perk potentially allowed max movement speed WHILE dealing more DPS than nearly any other primary. No other primary offered that combination. None. Not Vex Mythoclast. Not even MIDA with RDM boots. TLW was the only weapon that allowed full range of movement while dealing lots of damage very quickly. Hence why the gun USED to make you feel like a futuristic cowboy.
2. Once upon a time, it was the most effective kinetic against shielded enemies, and against majors or enemies with no critical points like minotaurs. If you didn’t have an elemental primary, then TLW could soften that limitation. No other kinetic primary would waste them like TLW. None. Charging knight major. Powpowpowpowpow. Down. Minotaur major. Powpowpowpow. Shield down. Powpowpow. Fast Reload while waiting for annoying teleport. Powpowpowpow. Aaand down.
3. One hit, non-crit kills on tier 1 enemies like thrall. That’s 8 quick kills. Enemies rarely even come out 8 at a time. Once upon a time, a true aim with TLW would tear through a group of low end enemies faster than any auto or pulse. Refer to no. 2 on what to do after clearing small tier enemies
4. One hit kills on tier 2 if you’re aim was true. Quick double taps on all enemies not killed with a critical. Once upon a time, the RoF and damage boost made this gun more than a match for other weapons. Just needed to be able to aim it.
5. Low reload time was easily fixable with the right load out, esp for Gunslingers w’ chain of woe. Once upon a time, reload was one of the “negatives” cited about this gun, but that’s only cause people didn’t know what they had in this weapon, now it really is a negative as the hip-fire bonus provides no incentive to hip-fire….ever. A handcannon reload load out is absolutely necessary for it to even be worth a crap, instead of being a nice boost to the weapon.
7. Once upon a time, even after this weapon was heavily set-upon by Bungie after PvP outcry, this gun could STILL wreck in PvE. It just wouldn’t go down, that is until Bungie finally neutered it. Castrated it. or “fixed” it if you will.
In the end, this gun has been tweaked out of it’s PvE usefulness which is a shame. It’s the only gun I (and many others) ever really enjoyed using because of it’s style, sound, animations and a perk that encouraged a completely different style of gunplay. I’ve used all of the other weapons, but this one kept me coming back long after the rest of the gunplay began to bore me. Being a space cowboy never got old, but now if you take TLW into PvE, it’s just for kicks and giggles. I’d boot someone who thought they could do the Raid Challenges with this weapon, whereas this gun used to be great in VoG for oracles if you weren’t cheesing, or didn’t sport Super Good Advice or a VoG weapon. *Sign* more fun destroyed by PvP balance and people who had no idea how to use it in PvE.
Once upon a time…..Last Word really could give you the last word.

The last word is terrible for pve, always has been.

The last word is terrible for pve, always has been.

The last word can be pvp or pve depending on what you like or how you play.
-
What world ate you living in? TLW has *always* been a pvp weapon unless you are just playing around in pve.
-
Ur so stupid the last word is only for pvp

Is the Last Word fun to use in PvE content? Purely subjective and varies with who answers. Is it a good weapon for PvE content? That depends on the context of the activity and what the player has at their disposal. * 98% of all primary weapons would offer superior range and ammo efficiency compared to Last Word * Hip-firing is not a trait unique to Last Word. Any primary weapon can also be fired while hip-firing and if the enemy is close enough for Lasty, it's close enough for any other primary. * Shredding shields is nothing special when special weapons exist to fulfill that purpose beautifully. It really depends on the context of what the player is doing and what they enjoy, but something being fun and good are generally two separate points.

5 RepliesHonestly they should just remove the last word . adding bloom destroyed it. Holding the trigger down for rapid fire (an exotic perk mind you)makes all but the first 2 bullets useless. I mean really.....whats the use of having a hand cannon with more than 2 bullets but only the first 2 matter??? The gun is garbage now . No one really uses it now because its trash.

2 RepliesOnce upon a time..... I hate the way that gun sounds. That's all.

1 ReplyEdited by PRINCE_ALI_1985: 4/28/2017 7:41:22 PMTLW was never a PvE beast in Y1. -It's a primary exotic -Low ammo count -Low reserve ammo -full auto made most ppl use many ammo -no crowd control perks -lack a burn dmg It was a decent fun weapons to use with a decent reload speed. Y1 PvE primary beasts -Fate Bringer -Vision of confluence -Word of Crota -Fang of Ir Yut -Red Death (health regen) If you want DPS any sniper, rocket,LMG or fusion will be better but Black hammer took the cake DPS wise not to mention the great G.horn who can melt anything that is a bullet sponge.
I didn't mention shotgun because it doesn't have range but even that can take care of majors who are close to you
TL;dr it was a decent fun PvE weapon but far from a beast in PvE.

Thorn was a beast once...
-
Vanilla Mythoclast actually did all of those things better, even the hip fire, before it was nerfed. After that though, you're right, it was pretty fun killing Minoutaurs with it, especially in PoE with small arms on.
-
Dude I don't think u saw what vex could do when it first came out nothing really beat it except gally for boss damage TLW in its best version couldn't beat vex when it was in its prime
-
It's fine if you liked it. I certainly won't fault you for liking a weapon. That being said, it was far from the best PvE Choice. Sure it handled the red bar enemies in story, patrol, ect. But to use it in more high end activities such as the raid, well you aren't doing the best you are capable of doing. You would have gotten more DPS with many others than a load out with tlw.
-
The last word has always been terrible in pve. The effective range of its hip fire is too short for the majority of activities, and the small mag is an issue.
-
Tlw was one of my first exotics. No. It was never a pve go-to. Never.
-
Last word a.k.a crucible crutch
-
pvp beast. pve beast no. was hella fun to ise tho
-
Its was tho

When people say oh this weapon was so good in pve is that a way to say buff it in pvp 🤔🤔🤔hmmmm i see the tactics

I can agree. As a Handcannon master in year 1, way before they were cool, I used it in PvE quite a lot. Add Gunslinger's Trance and Chain of Woe with the hipfire damage bonus.... I really was unstoppable. I was 2 tapping red bar knights from the hip. I'd easily pop them in the face with a hip shot. It was a fun and powerful gun until the hip fire bonus was removed. Hell in TTK I was using it for a bit. It was fun. Same with Universal Remote. I had quite a ... unique... fighting style with that gun in PvE. Back in the day during the 100% damage boost to shotties. Nothing should stand against my acrobatic shotgun kata. I was truly unstoppable. Doing headshot damage in excess of 10k, which was a shit load of damage back in the day.

There have always been better choices in PVE than TLW. Not to say there didn't use to be a fun factor to it, but beast is going a bit far.
