Titans. Titans are the "military". Warlocks are intelligence. Hunters are asshat cowboys that go in lone wolf and guns blazing to -blam!- shit up. But never on an order, always because it sounded like a good time.

I'd say Hunters fill a Scout Recon role more than anything else.
-
Yet all of them participate in the same frontline combat roles.

But not in the same way. There are the oddball fireteams of all one class, but generally speaking its one of each. They head out for field work as directed by the vanguard Council. They go their separate ways after until called for again. Guardians are our saviors and last line of defense. Don't forget though, they also have their own individual agendas and missions. Too much structure in the classical military scenario would detract from that.
-
Still, a military of any kind needs some sort of organization. Titans have the Titan Orders, which makes me wonder if those are divided up, seeing as how Titans are closest to a classic military, like you pointed out.
-
And they do like I said. They're all bound to take orders from their respective vanguard leader. And when the leaders require it, band together. The rest of the time they're out on their own, achieving their personal goals. It's pretty straight forward good sir.
