Warlocks ate by far the least agile class and don't really have the best armor to compensate for that. They need the range. If you're refering to the ridiculous thunderstrike melee, that's a perk that makes that reach.
Warlocks are also only class without an evasion ability. You want to dial back range, give us ability to evade.
But the lock honestly needs range

Evades require either an exotic or a mode on your skill tree. I am also completely aware of the thunder strike melee requiring a perk, and while I honestly think that's broken, that's not what I'm talking about. Why is the base melee range so much more? It makes the shotgun play style the easiest thing in the world. Fine let the warlocks keep their increased range on all of the subclasses, I'm just saying they should have to have a melee charge to be able to do it. Otherwise I think every class should have just as fair a chance of landing their melee.

And again...warlocks ate the least agile class. Charged melees basically add damage or an effect. They boost range a bit but their primary purpose is damage and effect. By removing a warlocks range they are significantly set back. They are slow and have no possible way (except blink on void but that's still kinda slow if you're trying for a real quick escape or evade) to deflect oncoming damage or inflict damage on someone able to quickly evade in close quarters. Basically warlocks are slow. Bungie tried compensating by giving range. I don't know why that's such an issue with you. It makes sense. Why would you take a class a slow, no range, not particularly strong class. Hunters are fast and agile. Titans are just fast tanks. And want locks to be neither with no range to offset those shortcomings.

Blink I rest my case.

Blink isn't as fast on the evasion as you think and you can still take damage without any drastic direction change.

blink isn't an evade.. you can still take damage while doing it unlikr shadestep and TG's aireal

Hunters have that too and shade step
