Since the beta I've mained a Hunter and Gunslinger is my go to Subclass and Favorite. I use it in both PVE and Crucible when I can and it could really use a buff. I made a Thread the other day about how to improve Hunter for PVE and today I realised that I never used the perk Circle of Life. The only time I could ever imagine using it was leveling up in the first day of Destiny and it being quickly replaced with something else. This perk is the definition of situational and nowhere would it be useful.
I made this video showing exactly what the perk does. I used it today before I thought of recording to see how much time it gives and I though the perk was broken because I saw no difference. I added the timers and killing an enemy with your throwing Knife adds an additional 2 seconds of time which is nothing.
Let me Explain why this perk fails
1. Two Seconds is nowhere near enough extra time to add.
2. You have to actually kill the enemy with your Throwing Knife, good luck doing that with Vex.
3. You only have 1 knife and it's gone after you throw it.
Solution
Remove the Perk and add it's effect to Knife Juggler or have it be an artifact. The perk is in the Throwing Knife tree and something far more useful can be added there like the ability to pick up your knife, travel faster/farther and maybe even a slight tracking perk. If you want to add a perk that increases Golden Gun Time replace the perk Deadeye with one that increases Golden Gun time.

1 ReplyThe last time I checked, the Circle of Life perk would trigger on all melee kills while your Golden Gun is active, not just the throwing knife. I'm not sure if that's a bug or not, and it certainly doesn't make the talent any less useless, but it is an interesting data point. One of the impressions I got from back when the devs were discussing the Titan changes is that the subclass talents are all created with specific builds in mind. If that's true then before Circle of Life existed there was a design intent that Gunslingers should have access to a build that supports a specific playstyle, and Circle of Life was created to fit into that build. Of course, the perk is so minimally useful that it's hard to guess at what build they were going for, but it behooves us to speculate because any changes they make will be in accordance with the original design philosophy. Some suggestions I would make for buffing Circle would be more along the lines of throwing knives dealing extra damage while GG is active, increasing the damage of the GG shot, or something of that nature. These things at least have a chance of preserving whatever purpose it is this talent is supposed to be fulfilling. For all that Bungie likes to tell us they value our feedback, sometimes I feel like they don't give us the tools to provide them with feedback that is actually valuable. One of the things I'd like to see them do with their new Twitch studio is to provide walk-alongs, in the style of their Dreadnaught showcase, through the design of each of the classes. If we knew more about what they were trying to achieve with the different subclass builds we could better provide them with feedback regarding where they are falling short of those goals.
