(A) In this theory, you continue your legacy from Destiny 1, keeping your acquired gear as you fight the next big bad boss.
(B) In this theory, Destiny 1 ends with the City being destroyed, forcing you to travel back in time to the time and place you began with the help of the Stranger. The locations and bosses are the same but the story plays out entirely differently since your Guardian has done it all before. Your Guardian travels to new locations as well before the Taken War, letting you have the chance to save the Reef.
(C) In this theory, you start as a brand new Guardian, possibly the last, where you learn about the Legend of the previous game, the bane of Oryx. Although you are a different Guardian, your first game's progress is reflected in the second games story. Maybe you will get to meet or even fight your first Guardian!
(D) In this theory, you play as a new Guardian who, has a case of amnesia. You do not keep any gear acquired from the first game but you can earn it again. Players will complain they didn't keep their progress from the first game... Long story short, a major plot twist occurs at the end of the game when you realize you didn't create a new Guardian but in reality continued your Legend of your first Guardian. You were yourself the entire time!

What if until you finished or at least got far enough in the game for B you could not use the vaults and only brought over what you had equipped the last time you played Destiny before you signed into Destiny 2. You could not come back to Destiny to change your equipped gear and anything you bring with you would be at risk of being destroyed to be replaced by new items until you can store them.
