I like the idea and in theory it's great. Just having Phil throw the idea around and talking about it publicly is even more so.
The only way I can see a hardware update is either via Kinect cable or SS USB on the side with a device that sits next to and works with the current XB1. Kind of like one of those mini computers available but, specifically for XB1 only.
Because lets face it, having people actually open up their XB1 to install/change things like RAM or even as far as the CPU would be a PR disaster for MS. Could you imagine a person with no PC building skills changing a CPU chip??
However this will be interesting to see how this plays out if it does.

Your theory is likely the most sound, especially given that the Xbox is a mess inside and was never designed to have things swapped and changed. -
Edited by Yo Erk: 3/2/2016 8:55:47 AMHere's a quick mock up of something. I think this could work. It has a new CPU/GPU combo that would work insync with the current CPU and GPU and 8 extra RAM slots.

Just out of curiosity I watched the above posted video and yeah...No way on Earth is MS's PR department going to allow things being changed/installed in the current Xbox One Model. First complaint will be a lot of cracked cases followed by I ripped the first ribbon cord I was suppose to detached scenarios.

I looked inside mine a while ago to install a Hard Drive since the factory one is smaller than the memory on my Android phone, I was met with a crazy mess of wires. 6 Youtube Tutorials later I closed it back up and cancelled the HDD order on Amazon. They either completely redesign the Xbox or your idea was correct lol -
Thankfully I have not reached the point of running out of storage just yet. But when I get close to that point I'm just going to go with an external HD
