I can't believe this argument still exists.
You're not being screwed out of content. The company who make your plastic box didn't pay for that content, therefor you are not entitled to it. It's Bungie/Activisions content to sell however they wish. Simple.
Is third party exclusivity shit? Absolutely. But it's here, so deal with it.

How are people not being screwed out of things? An Xbox player had to pay for those things that they won't get for a year so they are being screwed. For me it's the year thing that's troubling. Sony had to have de used to be that big of a dick to make it a year for already bought content.

Edited by TommyG: 12/18/2015 5:41:47 PM
An Xbox player had to pay for those things that they won't get for a year so they are being screwed.
Problem you have is you feel that because you bought a game, you automatically own ALL content related to that game. The content and the way it's distributed lies with the creator or owner of the content. If they wish to sell the rights of that content for a certain length of time, to a certain company, they are free to do so. It's not the best way to do it, but it exists all the same. Just the same as exclusive content does depending on which store you buy the games from. These businesses only care for money. Exclusives draw in that money. People should be used to it by now.
-
Except that the include those exclusives in the game they give to Xbox players, just lock them away. We don't pay later for the content that was exclusive but rather a year ahead, and even more for the strikes. The maps and areas for those strikes exist but they just don't allow the strike exactly to be accessed on the Xbox, and the content is the same price for both consoles. I wouldn't have minded if the price had been lower slightly on Xbox and then people could buy the exclusives or if the time period hadn't been a year but it's pure ass holery. Most store exclusives are just aesthetics, not actual content like was with Destiny. I wouldn't be mad if there were exclusive shaders or emotes for PS but guns and strikes being held off for a year is just Sony being dicks.
-
You were locked from content because Microsoft didn't pay money for the content. It's as simple as that. It doesn't matter where that content is stored. You don't own it, therefor have no right to it just because it exists. I understand your gripe, I'm not a fan of third party exclusives either, but at least I understand the shit reasoning behind it. You just come across as another whiny little fanboy, hurt because your precious plastic box doesn't have the same content as someone else's plastic box.
-
I get why exclusives exist and all that I just am arguing that they're stupid and that Sony had to have set out to make it a year. Ass hole business practices should be judged and pointed out as ass hole. And Sony should be recognized for going out of their way to be ass holes. Exclusives don't benefit anyone and the year thing and all the marketing exclusive deals Sony has are just to spite Xbox which is stupid. And I'm not going to be mad at Microsoft for not shilling out money to a company that only still exists thanks to them giving Halo a chance.
-
So how about being mad at Microsoft for buying exclusive rights to a full game for a year? Or does that not bother you at all because it doesn't affect you?
-
What game did they do that for?
-
Rise of the Tomb Raider. Exclusive for what is rumoured to be a full year.
-
Isn't that series completely Xbox only, not time exclusive?
-
It's timed. For a year as far as we know. If you need to look up more, The Division has exclusive content coming for xbox too. Welcome to third party exclusivity. It's shit no matter what console you own.
-
But you can't buy tomb raider right now for ps can you?
-
No, because Microsoft paid enough money for square enix to deny me that opportunity. Please don't act like you purchased the content that was locked away from you. You didn't. It was never advertised on xbox as any sort of exclusive. We paid for the same game. Sony paid to unlock the extra content for its users.
-
Except that that's not what happened. They didn't pay for eternal exclusives like the Division(which I do think is stupid) but rather to lock away content from Xbox players. We were set from the start to get those weapons and Sony payed to make it be a year later.
-
Like Microsoft locked away a full game for a year that was suppose to be multi platform anyways considering it was a sequel to a game that was on both consoles? You can't defend the practise on one console and slate it on another. That's just blatant fanboyism.
-
Microsoft isn't locking it away for a year after you've payed for it already.
-
What does that matter? The exclusive destiny content was never advertised on xbox. You paid for what was advertised. Let's just draw a line under it. It's clear you're willing to defend the practise so long as it suits yourself. They are both the same thing. Buying third party exclusivity to make thier respective consoles look more appealing to customers. It's a shit practise and it doesn't really benefit gamers as such unless you buy both consoles, but it exists on BOTH sides. End of.
-
Because charging someone for something and then locking it away for a year is the issue. If you aren't charged for it it's sort of stupid but it's not all that bad because you aren't paying for something you might never actually get. Take for instance the current ps exclusive weapons and armor in Destiny. I payed the exact same amount as anyone else for TTK but I'm not ever going to see those weapons I payed for because I've got Halo 5 to play and it doesn't suck like Destiny. I payed for that content and because they locked it away for a year I won't get it. With a full game you just pay a year later. Maybe at that point you don't like that kind of game and can decide you don't want to play it. You keep the money that content cost. It's not really something I'm for, excluding games from a console, but it's not an eternal exclusive and you aren't being forced to pay for something you might never play so it's not as big of a deal. It's more of a moderate annoyance. That's why I would have been fine with the Xbox version of Destiny being cheaper and then letting us buy a add on after the deal ran out and get those exclusive weapons.
-
When you get your head round the fact you paid for what was advertised, then you'll understand. Like I said before, you are not entitled to content just because it exists.
-
You are entitled to what you payed for. What was going to be exclusive wasn't advertised. And furthermore we were advertised that we'd get them, just a year letter but it was payed for with the initial buy meaning that it was bought and the.n kept away for a year. It's like buying a movie but you don't get to see the end until a year later but you have to pay for all of it up front.
-
Please direct me to where the exclusive playstation content was advertised for xbox?
-
Gamers are still allowed to be indignant that they're being treated poorly. Bungie made the content and held it hostage for extra money.
-
Agreed. But maybe it's time to start complaining with your wallet instead your mouth? A terribly thought out post isn't going to change a thing.

Criticism of all forms is important.
